I am 5'4 and 150 lbs (I do have some muscle). For pants, I wear anything from a 9-13 (I tend to gain most of my fat on my lower body). For shirts, mediums/larges (I'm relatively small-busted). Dress sizes, 7-10. I hate how inconsistent womens' clothing sizes are between manufacturers. I went into an American Eagle store and grabbed a pair of their size 11 jeans to try on. I couldn't even get them up past my thighs - WTF! I can't be that huge. I didn't even bother trying on any more of their jeans.
I wish womens' pant sizes were measured like mens'.. by inseam and waist. It's next to impossible for me to find a decent fitting pair of jeans because I have a 30 inch waist and 40 inch hips. And if it fits in the waist, it's too tight in the hips, or whatever. And I can't stand those ever-so-trendy ultra low-rise jeans, which only look good on women with no hips and next to no body fat. Yet I don't want to wear those "Mom" jeans with the waist that goes up to your boobs! A woman can't win!

I am totally with you on this!! Whenever I go jeans shopping, I have to pull out anything from an 8-11 and hope that one randomly fits. I have "big" (as in I'm far from a twig) quads from running and biking so most pants hardly go over my legs but then have three inches left in the waist. I went shopping with my fiancee a while back and when I saw how easy it was for him to just look for his size, try it on and go...I was jealous.Quoth RammsteinGirl View Post

Find a doctor that keeps up with current published research and keep drinking your whole milk. Any pediatrician that tries to put a kid on skim needs to lose his licence.Quoth AriRashkae View Post
And my (2 year old) son's new pediatrician told me that the family should switch to skim from whole so we could lose weight? WTF? I told him I grew up on raw, and that whole is like skim to me. Not going any lower.
<end rant>
(I mis-read this line at first to read that he WANTED you to drink whole milk and was all happy, until I realized I read too fast and got it wrong.)

I'd love it also if the womens jeans are sized/made the same way as men's because a few months ago I went to my usual jeans shop and tried on a pair of size 20 ( I usually get size 18's in jeans here in australia, i think thats about size 16 in amercian terms, not so sure) and it was extactly the same size as my size 16 jeans from another store ( a much cheaper store brand) that still fits me! It was very weird.... And I'm 5'4 so I'm constantly having to have all my trousers/jeans hemmed up, even my taekwondo dobok had to be hemmed up... according to my height, my instructor gave me the dobok made for someone of my height BUT, what they failed to consider was that the dobok was made for someone VERY thin, more of a kid's size than anything... it looked comical on me hehe ( I managed to squeeze into the dobok shirt, and had to get my grandmother to help me take the dobok shirt off afterwards and my grandmother said " How did you manage to get into this shirt?!" with a puzzled look on her face heh)
So yeah I've found the same problem in several stores, that my size can vary from 14 (if I'm lucky) to 20. I cannot wear much of women's plus sizes because they'd be literally tents on me as I'm of a middle build but with a bit of a stomach
and big thighs (well I reckon) even though I do taekwondo..
Anyway! I'm seriously considering checking the men's jeans out and pretend to buy one for my partner but really for me because I like having jeans in diff textures/looks and theres not many of that for bigger womens sizes sadly.

You may find that they fit you better anyway. And the store employees should be used to it - I never have any trouble from them.Quoth IceLee View PostAnyway! 1. Would you rather be right, or get the result you want?
2. If you're consistently getting results you don't want, change what you do.
3. Deal with the situation you have now, however it occurred.
4. Accept the consequences of your decisions.

@ Seshat: True that, I did once buy a man's board shorts and got away with it because it has a flowery pattern down one side of the leg ( My partner said he wouldn't buy it because of the design/pattern) I reckon we ladies should take over the mens' department/stores... *gets an evil, comical thought of all women buying everything in those stores, leaving the men with the women's clothings*
@BeckySunshine: I know, I'm quite tempted to get one of those expensive corsets, apparently you can also make your own... sadly I'm not so good at sewing T_T

I can do VERY basic hand sewing, but I think a good corset would be beyond me. Maybe someday I'll have the time and the money and get myself a sewing machine.Quoth IceLee View Post@BeckySunshine: I know, I'm quite tempted to get one of those expensive corsets, apparently you can also make your own... sadly I'm not so good at sewing T_TUnseen but seeing

My mom's solution? We had a choice:Quoth Seshat View PostIt can be a problem. How do you teach a child who just wants chips to eat a healthy diet, without telling them to eat what they're given and be grateful for it?
My friend has a daughter at that age. 'I'm hungry' 'Okay. Go eat what you didn't eat for dinner.' 'I want chippies!' 'You're not getting chippies until you've eaten your dinner.'
"Eat it or don't. If you choose not to, you go hungry."
We also weren't terribly picky growing up because of that, but if Mom knew we hated something, she wouldn't make it. Works pretty well, in my opinion.Jim: Fact: Bears eat beets. Bears. Beets. Battlestar Gallactica.
Dwight: Bears don't eat bee... Hey! What are you doing?

Because it's a proper noun that predates the change of Politically Correct (Quoth Estil View PostSo why do we still have a United Negro College Fund?
) phrasing, and is thus immune from the standard?
Don't ask for any more explanation, I'm straining to pass that much. Any more and I'll probably get a hernia.

I had a customer about 2 years ago who was insaine. Demanded to know why our Home Improvement store did not have a stock room. I explained that all our extra stock was stacked up above each bay along our aisles...
It became apparent he was not realizng he was in a warehouse store dispite the fact he was surrounded by hundreds of bays of merchandise... I paged our MOD.
Our manger made the mistake of listening to this fellow for almost 45 minutes.. by then, he was making up very silly and irrational demands. Management finally had to walk the crazy guy out of the store (as not to cause any more trouble)
What's strange is... this fellow had the appearance and manorisms of an intelectual person, yet he was as loony as can be.Last edited by excuse me??; 11-22-2007, 08:18 AM.

Because the "politically correct" crowd can be as hypocritical as anyone else. Well, not hypocritical, per se, just very good making a mountain out of a molehill and quibbling about really unimportant issues. I never understood why negro became a bad word, considering that that's what they used to call themselves with pride. But a bad word it became.Quoth Estil View PostSo why do we still have a United Negro College Fund?
The one I really don't understand is "Oriental". It had to become "Asian"? Sorry, that really doesn't make sense. If I want to describe someone with the appearance of having ancestors from the greater China area (including Japan, Korea, and all other countries that have had a lot of traffic with China), I want a word that describes that area, and only that area. Asia is a freaking huge place, including Russia, India, the Middle East, and all the smaller countries around those places. And each of those places has different physical characteristics, different cultures, and so forth.
