I thought it was more like The Count of Monte Cristo in the previews.

Think about it: Man gets arrested, imprisoned for a crime he didn't commit, gets out, changes his name, gets revenge.
Of course, then I saw that he was slashing people up, not ruining their lives, and I threw that idea out the window.

And naturally, being the Jacobite Scot that I am, I think Fawkes was a terrorist!
Assassin is probably a better term, since the plan was to remove the head of state and replace him with Princess Elizabeth of Bohemia.

There is a theory that James I and his advisors knew about the plot and allowed it to run its course so that they would come out looking good. In fact accounts at the time had James himself finding the gunpowder and Fawkes in the cellar. Using the threat of terrorism for political gain isn't excatly new.

Guy Fawkes was the only man to enter Parliament with honest intentions.

Also there's already a version of the Sweeny Todd musical available on DVD, starring David Hasselhoff.

Pfft, what do they teach in history today?
Biased and only what our government wants us to know about?

Don't believe me? Take a class on the American revolution in the US then go to the UK and take one.

On topic: Burton and Depp, good combination, as long as Depp can leave Jack Sparrow mostly out of it and think of Edward Scissorhands (with some of Jack Sparrow's outgoingness).

There's also talk about two potential projects for Burton: Spiderman 4 (yeah, right, NOT) and The Hobbit (as long as he doesn't turn it into a musical).

Hell, I remember learning nothing of the world except for ancient history, a little roman and a little greek.

The only other things i learned, were things that affected the U.S. Ie i learned enough about england to know they were teh ev1lzs. and we had to get away.

hehe. But honestly, I learned almost nothing of the world, as far as politics and history are concerned.

I took a Military History class, and that was the same way.

              stupid american government.

Sweeny Todd is a play. And the character never actually existed. Maybe Wikipedia will have something on it...

That's so interesting. We call it the Revolutionary war. Kinda like how we call it the vietnam war, but the vietnamese call it the american war.

I think that the war of independance sounds more accurate, but we Americans tend to over-dramatize things to make it sound more interesting.

(Albert Fishe, there's some nightmares for you).

And as far as political influence on history: Benjamin Franklin was a child molester. Partial to little boys. Ask the French. Of course, it wasn't an actual CRIME at the time.....

Speaking of the French, the hilarious thing about all those people who claimed the French are anti-freedom etc. is that they were on the American side during the Revolutionary War of Independence.

And many of those that helped us out were killed in the French Revolution. Many of our founders were upset that we couldn't help them the way they helped us, as we couldn't sustain a cross-oceanic war yet. The group that took power was not the same french government that aided us in the War for Independance.
