When I was a Kid, I Remember Some Bad Stuff;

We're talkin elementary school. The other day, my parents and I talked about the things I'd been exposed to when I was young. This is recounting.

McDonald's

We watched this couple before us (ma pa 2 kids) order with some fussing and go back out to their car. The kids were yelling, and the Mom was doing all she seemed she could, until she told the kids (outside car, as we're walking out) to get in the car, she's going to spank them.

The Dad gets enraged, screams at them all to get into the car, the Mom starts crying, and when everyone's in, the Dad beats the living crap out of them all. We went back inside as the manager was alerted to call the cops, and I (5or so) stood dumbfounded for a moment at the window.

Wal-Mart

At around 7, we were looking for some quick n easy meals in the frozen section. Randomly, we saw a customer screaming until his face was red and you saw his neck vein pop, about some bruises on the fruits. Wtf?

Some other age there, my sister pointed out that someone had farted in the aisle. An employee was the only other one in there, and she pointed at him saying,"You're a gasbag! You're a gasbag!" While Mom and Dad quickly took us away, Dad whispered,"Dummy! That ws me.."

Sister was about 3, and Mom, Grandpa, and I were on our way out of the check-out lane. Mom explained we'd be eating soon, so no candy. Grandpa sighed, a candy was a special thing between him and Sister. So we leave, get in the van. We hear munching...

And its my Sister eating a Hershey's. Mom thought Grandpa took it, but no.. Sister stole it! Along with a handful of other goodies. So Mom took her back in the store and talked to the manager (who was amused, and let her off with a warning), when a cop walked by, and Mom got the cop to explain to Sister about stealing = jail.

She never stole again.

Wherever

Many times in many places, I've seen adults and kids get smacked, told off, or yelled at stupidly by customers and/or co-workers/employees in places.

I've seen in lots of resteraunts, the waitress spitting in food or drinks before they go out, because the previous time a customer was there, they didn't tip.

PETA

A few times, wherever it was, there were farms I visited, to see the animals and pet them as I loved them. PETA really ruined a lot of those childhood memories for me.

-The Tyson truck they flipped over, full of chickens, killing over half.
-The cows they set free which were run over by big trucks, or stampeded into the many ditches, breaking their legs n such.
-The animal shelters they took a large amount of animals from, put in an impromtu petting zoo, and then all the animals had to be put down as one had rabies, and the PETA folk mixed the herd.
-A protest in a flea market, where a lady had sugar-gliders. All the screamed chanting caused one of them to have a massive heart-attack and die on the spot.

Ridiculous idiots.

In my firm opinion I believe PETA should be treated the way they treat the animals they "rescue". Namely, the should be shoved into small boxes, not fed, and then put down.

PETA kills more animals a year than any other organization. Many animals they put down are "test" animals from laboratories. Animals that were well fed, kept in sanitary conditions and depending on the testing, live much like they would if kept as a pet.

When they take animals from animal shelters they often have to put down all the animals due to lack of planning (food, illness etc) whereas if they had just left the animals in the shelter they would have been fed, warm and probably adopted to a loving family.

I heard a story from a friend that works at a dog shelter that was hit by PETA. They had over 50 dogs. One dog, in quarantine, had Parvo. If you don't know what parvo is read here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canine_parvovirus.

Basically parvo is extremely contagious and usually fatal (if not treated). PETA was taking all the dogs. The ones listed as adopted, sick, or quarantined all of them. The employees tried to tell them that mixing the parvo dog with the other dogs would kill them all. They didn't listen.

PETA mixed the parvo dog with the healthy dogs and left them in unsanitary conditions. All the dogs either died or had to be put down.

My friend had to phone people who had adopted one of their dogs, and were just waiting to pick them up, that they couldn't get their dog and why.

Yeah, so I have extreme prejudice against PETA and donate my money to people that know what the hell is going on.

Without turning this into a Fratching post (I very much want to but will stow it), PETA is the single worst thing that has ever developed in the history of animal rights.

It isn't much of a stretch to equate PETA with the Khmer Rouge.

While it is noble to care about animals and want to see them treated humanely, PeTA does much harm to that cause by killing many of the animals they claim to protect, and by destroying other people's property.

I remember back when I was a kid I was best friends with my next door neighbor. Well his dad was a bit of a drunk, nice guy sober but toss back a 6'er and you never knew what you would get. I remember one time we were playing in their garage and for some reason he pissed his dad off so his dad physically kicked him across the garage (several feet actually). I can still picture it in my head to this day.

I remember my dads psycho bitch of a sister (I refuse to call that whore my aunt) screaming at me to shut that brat up (I was about 3 at the time). I've pictured her as a evil monster ever since and have completely written her out of my life. Hell I wouldn't piss on her to save her if she was on fire.

I had an incredibly strong fear of the Crypt Keeper at the time, and believed that any room that my parents weren't in, he was.

So I kinda didn't sleep in my own room until I was 12.

I saw some awful stuff when I was little. Stuff I didn't understand what I was seeing at the time, and years later, when I WAS old enough to know, my unconscious would sort it out without any help from me and and send me jolting up in my bed after having some awful epiphany.

The brain can be a real wanker sometimes.

Has that ever happened to anyone? You don't realize what you've seen until years later? I have a crystaline memory of when I was very small. For the most part, its a fun thing to have. But in cases like this, not so much.

Nobody ever really forgets anything. Just because you don't realize a memory is there, or that you don't understand it, doesn't mean some obsessive little part of your grey matter isnt' picking at it and sniffing it and trying to sort it out.

And yeah, kids are tough. But just because they can move on from life's traumas doesn't mean it doesn't do something to them along the way.

I'm sorry, but I'm REALLY appreciating the irony here.
