Am I hopelessly naive, or is that an awful lot of money for a vacuum?

RE the furniture, its really worth shopping around, even the places you think are going to be expensive. I got a bedroom set from Argos (do you have Argos in the USA?) a few weeks ago for a LOT cheaper than Ikea would have cost.

Yes it is a lot for a vacuum (the one I bought came out to about $420). But it is a Dyson vacuum. They supposedly last forever and never lose suction, pretty much the best vacuum you can get. I got it because I had such a horrible experience with previous vacuums.

I have a chinchilla. Chinchillas use a dust bath to clean themselves, and the dust ends up getting all over the place, especially after I let him run around. The dust is very fine, and just clogs up the filter on most vacuums after a few times. So I lose all suction, and the vacuum just jams. With the previous vacuum I used, I had to take the entire thing apart every 5 minutes to clear the jam. The vacuum I got has no filters (minus a hepa filter after everything else has been caught) and is never supposed to lose its suction power. Plus, if a jam does happen, it is easy to take apart and clear the jam.

So I figured rather than get an ok vacuum for about $100, I'd splurge and get a really good vacuum that will last forever and I should never have to buy new filters or anything for. I already appreciate the thing, it picks up more dirt and stuff than I'd ever thought one person would be able to track into an apartment over the period of a week. I made a couple of my friends jealous the other day when I brought it over to help clean out the place I just moved out of.

Ah, I was forgetting the exchange rate as well, £200 is ok for a good Dyson.

Be careful with it, a couple that i'm friends with discovered a while ago that if you throw one in an argument, they smash easily

I've had really good luck with my bissell vac (bagless, with plastic filter so cleaning em out is easy). I'm like a few here, I kill vacs alot and often.

I wanted a Dyson but I just couldn't get myself to spend soo much money for it. The only time my bissell "lost" suction is when I didn't want to "sweep" before vaccuming. If you vac up enough large pieces, you'll end up needing to "clearing" the hose. (I'm sure the same thing applies to a Dyson)

Only if the piece gets caught, which will apply to any vacuum. One it's made it's way into the "bag" it's not a problem. Good thing is that is seems to be designed such that if something gets sucked into the hose, it's not very likely to get caught up. In other vacuums I've use, no matter which way you use it, everything has to go down the entire length of the hose. And since the hose is bendy, it's easy to get caught up. But on the Dyson if I'm not using the attachment setup, the trip from the brush to the bag, is much more direct, and much shorter (no need to go through the long hose). If I use the attachment setup, the way it's stored will push through any blocks in the hose, as part of the setup is a long, solid pipe which the hose surrounds when stored.

I put the quotes around bag because I can't think of the real name for where all the dirt ends up. I guess plastic bin is a bit more accurate.

I have the Dyson Complete (Sears exclusive), I absolutely love it. At one point we had 3 cats and a dog. It held up nicely. Now we just have the 2 cats and it works wonders.

Well, I never brought anything major at Sears but we do have account with the eyeglass shop and I've even brought some clothes as well as some shoes there too. Anyway a year ago I got two new glasses(regular, sunglasses) and I wanted two different frames for them. Well, for some reason they goofed and they were the same frames. Well, it was no biggie and I took them anyway since I didn't really like orginal frames for the sunglasses (I don't even remember what they look like). Well, anyway a month ago I realize both of them needed some repairs and at first I tried to do the repairs but I couldn't even made it little worse I think. So then I went over to Sears on a day off(note it's across town but it's in a nice big mall) and got them both fix at no charge. The funny thing is they didn't even check to see if I had an account with them or anything like that.

I guess you got someone who wasnt aware that you can HFM (order) just about anything.

Oh, and just FYI - I saw a few people mention ways of getting new app account numbers. Those all work, but I think the easiest way to get it is to act like the customer is doing a payment on the register, (look it up using their social), then at the payment screen, hit cash and do something trivial like 1.00. Then, on the next screen where youd put in the amount they gave you - the top of the screen will be clear and itll list

1: AccountNumber $Payment.Amount

Copy down the account number, then do a self-void.

That was alot to type, but reality it takes about 20 seconds to do. Much eaiser than getting HUB to print out the receipt with the account #.

You know, I've never thought about getting an account number in that way, Journeyofthought. Thanks for the tip! Of course, I wouldn't do it for just anyone, but only in a special situation like that of the OP's.

Sears (at least the one I work at) will typically try and go out of their way to make sure you have a good shopping experience. That's because we have a mission, vision and values.

I like going to Sears because I use Craftsman tools. (For hand tools, if it ever breaks, just bring it to Sears and get a new one) Well, I was working on my van trying to loosen a nut, and the reversing switch on the socket handle breaks. Well, it's a Craftsman, go into Sears, find a clerk who finds a new one for me and mentions that since they changed the switches from metal to plastic, they break more often.




Who keeps stealing my Craftsman drills???
