  • Celebrity was in our store.

Have any of you heard of the NASCAR racer Bill Elliott? He was just in our hobby shop and I didn't even recognize him! I've lived in Dawsonville my whole life(until recently, I moved out) and I didn't know who he was!!!! Let me explain this to you guys...Bill Elliott is the patron saint of Dawsonville. His picture is everywhere! They even have a saying about him, "Awesome Bill from Dawsonville."

there is a restaraunt devoted to him and our city hall is a racing museum! No joke! They sell hot dogs at our city hall!

Like I said, I'm 20 years old. And I've spent about 19 and a half in that town and I have NEVER seen him before today. Ugh. I feel cheated...oh well, we signed him up for a hobby card so now I have his phone number! Hell yeah!(like I'd do anything with it though)

Also- One of the Brave's players also shops here. But, I don't care as much about him, he's not from my hometown.

Oh well, I hate NASCAR anyway.

My dad is a big fan of auto racing (NASCAR and sprint cars) and got Bill's autograph at a race where he made a special appearance.

He's also got autographs from Richard Petty and Ernie Irvan.

My brother is the reason NASCAR fans turn against it - he'll literally talk your ears off on the subject.

He used to go every January to the Winston Preview event when it was held in Winston-Salem and accumulated quite a few autographs. Most of the drivers were pretty good about signing stuff for him except for one -

      Dale Earnhardt Sr.

According to my brother, Sr. told my brother he didn't have time. And my brother, who even though he's mentally challenged, will say what's on his mind - said point blank in front of everybody "You're RUDE."

He takes no crap from anyone

I've met Bill Elliot many times. It just so happens that my dad knows guys that knows guys and so on.
Back in the day, Elliot was the driver for Melling Racing. Harry Melling (RIP) was a friend of my dad's. He also owned one of the local resorts in my home town. One day, Elliot and some other NASCAR racers/drivers/owners were in town for a golf tournament at the resort, which was only 5 miles from my house.
We showed up, told Harry we were there, and got the VIP treatment the entire day.

Thanks to my dad, I have met numerous sports celebrities. NASCAR and INDY drivers, pro football, basketball and hockey players, golfers, etc.

Remember those old Miller Lite commercials: "Tastes Great! Less filling!" with the old football and baseball players? I met them all, in a bar called The Grapevine in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Bob Uecker was a riot!

I can't stand Nascar, but it wouldn't surprise me to see any of them venturing around these parts one day.

DGoddess, I'm sorry Ernhardt was such an ass to your brother. How funny that only one driver out of all them "didn't have time". Some of my relatives who are way, way too into Nascar (probably at your brother's level or worse!) met him before he died and were disappointed when he wasn't very nice. They said Jr was pretty cool, though.

Oh, I'm sure he still IS a riot. I just can't be sure, because I haven't talked to him since that one time.

It's not like he has me on his Christmas card list.

I had Gabriel Gonzaga and one of the members of Stained (the big tall guy... damn. .he's freaking huge!) in my store.

We didn't let Gonzaga know that we knew who we were, but after he saw us all talking but keeping it on the downlow, I think he guessed and he was glad we kept it hush hush.

The Stained guy was another story, as he is friends with one of my co-workers.

Here's an idea: Becks, move back to WI...preferably Waukesha. King, move to NJ so they don't notice that anyone's missing.

                          Problem solved.
