So there's a pretty well known local carpet company (Prizant's, for the Pittsburgh contingent that posts here) that back when my parents moved into the house I grew up in ended up trashing the place. The workers piled up the remnants in our front yard, and they actually busted out the screen in my parents' bedroom window so they could just throw their garbage down to the driveway below. When my dad came home and saw the mess, I thought he was either going to have a major heart attack or end up killing whoever from the store he could get his hands on. With all the stupid kid stuff I did in my day, I never saw my dad that upset in my entire life.
Later on, when I was just out of high school I was visiting a friend of mine who worked at CompUSA, and the owner of the carpet company came in absolutely bombed and started peppering my friend with questions on everything in the store. He wasn't being overly sucky, it was like being stuck with the chatty drunk at a party except this time he was at work with you.
Well I read the news that the firm he sold the company to in 2006 drove the company straight into the ground. It sucks for the people who lost their jobs right before Christmas, but all their talk of how obsessed with customer service they were when they were boning folks right up to the bitter end (their web site still doesn't have any indication that the company is all but dead) finally ended up biting them square in the ass.
Thankfully another local carpet/flooring company (Molyneaux, for the Pgh crew) is offering to give a 1/3 discount to people who put a deposit down for Prizant's and now can't even get them to answer the phone.
