We're so hung about nudity and sex in the U.S., yet seem to have no problem with violence (the movie "Once" gets an R-rating because of the F-word, but the Pirates of the Caribbean movies get PG-13 ratings). Well, at least the people in charge don't. I'd much rather have people walking around nude than people walking around beating and shooting each other.

I once got into an argument with a friend about nudity/violence and it came to a head when I asked "What are you more likely to see in real life? A naked human body or a giant pumped up action hero running around Detroit with two MP5s screaming?" Heck take a look at Monty Python's Flying Circus and there's nudity in it.

Once for a project in high school I did a presentation on Shinto (Japan's main religion). Shinto has some statues that are very risque but they are mostly meant for fertility. A lot of weird looks when I was explaining it but I got some glares from people when I had pictures of the statue up.
