I don't think he was saying it was an inconvenience to carry ID.

A lot of people are really fearful of identity theft these days and won't carry ID unless they absolutely need it, just in case they lose it or have it stolen.
Too tired of living and too tired to end it. What a conundrum.

I think it was more along the lines of it being silly to card someone for a game that you must be 15 to buy.

Dude, the race thing is of no importance whatsoever to your story. For future stories, you should leave that out. On top of it, you were only punishing yourself by going elsewhere to purchase the game. Would it really have killed you to pull out your id? So I fail to see, where is the sighting?
Race may not matter on the whole but that was just me trying to provide a decent description. I'm a writer, its what I do, I'll leave it out in future if it bothers you so much.

And I didn't pull out my ID because I didn't have it on me. If you read what I wrote, you'd know that I only carry ID when I mean to buy 18 rated games or DVD's. Identitify fraud here in England is increasing and I'm not going to be a victim.

The suckiness comes from the employee, this guy looked at me as if it was blindingly obvious that I was underage, and yet seemed to be alone in the matter.

Then again its not like I was really expecting support on this manner, I just needed to rant a little.

I thought it was fine that you mentioned his race. You didn't use it in a negative way, just descriptive. Nothing wrong with that.

A quick note- unlike in america, a lot of people don't carry ID with them- a great deal of people don't drive, and other ID systems are often not accepted anyway. My only ID is my passport, which funnily enough I don't want to be carrying around with me on the offchance someone thinks a 22 year old is under 18 or even 15.

You're right, I had skimmed that part. I had to go back and re-read it. My apologies.

I live in the US, and drive everywhere (and most people do the same. So gas dependent!) so to not carry an ID on me is unheard of. Yes, we have a lot of problems with identity theft as well, but one is far more likely to get their information stolen because of a vulnerability in technology, like a virus-type infection on their computer, or a hacker tapping cell phones, or something like that. In addition, if something happened to you in the US, and you've never been fingerprinted, chances are they aren't going to know who you are unless they see some ID or get a hold of your dental records, which could mean a matter of life or death if you are allergic to medicine or in really critical condition or both. So to me, not carrying ID on you is crazy talk unless you are younger than the driving age in your state.

To me, it sounds as if you were the slightly sucky one.
                How exactly was he sucky?

me: Well no, sorry, I stopped getting asked for ID for 15 rated games a few years ago
CD: Then I can't sell you this game.
                me: Fine
Seems like a perfectly civil exchange to me. He then calmly left and went to another store.

I know some of you are used to getting a lot of crap from SCs when you ask for ID, but that doesn't mean everyone is sucky about it, okay?

My 14 year old son is over 6 feet tall and we have to buy his clothes in the big man section, so size isn't a factor to age. He towers over most people and looks like he could break a person in two.

Occasionally, he will dress up in a dress shirt, tie and black khakis. He is still only 14 years old, at least for another month.

Most people assume he is a lot older than he is, but I would still want clerks to card him.

Some clerks are just a little odd.

My bf will be 30 on Saturday. He's tall, he's bald and there is absolutely no possible way that he could look any younger than 25.

He still gets carded for cigarettes....only cigarettes...never alchohol.

I understand being careful with IDing people (I was a bartender, and I always carded anyone who looked under the age of 25) but sometimes it goes a little too far. A 15 year old would have to be really really physically mature for his age to look like a 20 year old.

Every now and then I'll get a wild hair and watch "Cops". I've seen them try to haul in people that are just passengers in a car because they don't have ID. As far as I know, it's not a crime to go running around without ID (unless you're driving and have no DL with you, of course).

Old law on the books in some places: Vagrancy. The specifics vary from place to place, but around here, it's you have to have ID, and $5 on your person if asked. If not, they can run you in. I'm guessing the cops are using a variant, and thinking if they've stopped the vehicle for a reason, anyone without ID is probably trying to hide something. After all, if you're wanted on a triple homicide, you're not likely to carry ID.

Then again, there *are* legitimate reasons for not having ID, as this thread's proved already.

Oh, I'd be in trouble then. I've usually got my ID on me, but I'm also usually flat broke. I tend to use my card for everything. Plus, if I have no cash, then I can't give any to my kids when they ask for money.

I seldom have $5 on me.

I'm not sure how it would work nowadays with credit/debit cards and such. As I said, *old* law. Ever so much older than my mom.
