  • Watch where you throw your baby!!

OK, so my bar has several pillars in it that are basically used as leaning posts for customers who have to stand. It's a quiet day, and a father is trying to entertain his baby who has been fussing since the minute it came in.

The man is basically stretching out his arms as far as they can go, then quickly pulling the baby towards his face going "Weeeeeeeee!" as he does it. It's actually a very cute sight, as the baby is quite clearly having a ball.

Oh dear, can you guess where this is going? The dad is walking around, stretching his arms out very quickly and dragging back again, the more the baby laughs, the faster he does it. He is not watching where he is going.

    Father: Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

    SMACK!

Yep, he rammed the baby straight into one of the pillars. The guy was quite clearly very shocked at what he had just done, and proceeded to hug the crying baby and return to his wife. I was just about to go over when he put his finger over his lip and gave me a shhhh sign.

My dad did similar to me once. I was about 2 and he was doing that throw-up-in-the-air-and-catch thing, and didn't realise he was under a low roof.

I wasn't taken to hospital, but my GP checked me over, and I was fine. Babies bounce. (*sick joke* Especially when you throw them down the stairs *sick joke*)

Please forgive me, but for some reason the mental picture of this happening got me laughing. It sounds like something I heard a comedian once say about his kids. I forget the details, but it was something like "If they survived having me as a father, they're going to live forever."
