    Heard around town:

One side of a telephone conversation from a woman attempting to close her Sears credit card account.

"Hello, I'm calling to close my account."

"I just don't shop at Sears enough."

"I don't need your speech, just close the account."

"I'm not actually Jane, I just want to close the account."

"Ma'am, just close the account, please."

"If you don't close the account, I will never shop at Sears again."

    "I gave you a reason!"

"I want to speak to your manager."

"Ma'am, just close the account. I don't want to hear it."

"Yes, but I would still like to speak to a manager, the way you just treated me was unacceptable."

"I thought your manager wasn't available."

"I will never shop at Sears again BECAUSE OF YOU!"

    "Close the account!"

    "You freaking SUCKASS!"

    Uh "I'n not actually Jane"

Does that particular fragment imply that the caller was trying to close someone elses account?

    Dumbass.

Sounds like it to me. Of course trying to close out an account in public where anyone could hear anything you said in the first place doesnt show intelligence so why should we expect it in that regard either.

Looks like an Epic Fail as opposed to a plain Fail then to me.

I've had similar frustrations. You could hear something similar from me at times. I'll edit to show what I'd consider an acceptable variation. (Edits in italic.)

"Hello, I'm calling to close my account."

"I just don't shop at Sears enough."

"I don't need your speech, please just close the account."

          Removed: I'm not actually Jane

"Ma'am, just close the account, please."

Removed: I will never shop at Sears again."

"I gave you a reason!" I simply don't shop at Sears enough.

"I want to speak to your manager."

"Ma'am, just close the account. I don't want to hear it."

"Yes, but I would still like to speak to a manager, the way you just treated me was unacceptable."

"I thought your manager wasn't available."

          Removed: final two sentences

Right. Your name was XX, I believe? Thank you. I will be contacting Sears about this incident. Please have a good day.

. . . and then yes, I would be writing to the company.
