  • Pizza Delivery...harder then it looks(apparently MUCH harder)

This is unfolding even as I type this. Really. This is about some not so bright people working in the food delivery profession. Anyway, my bro called a certain Hut that delivers pizza over an hour ago. This store's about twenty minutes away and if they're swammped I understand the forty-five minute wait, but it's been well over an hour.

We just recieved a call from...someone, because apparently the delivery guy doesn' have a cellphone but is still able to telepathically communicate with someone who does. Anyway, they asked us to put our dog inside, I'm guessing because it's menacing. Two problems, first our dog is the farthest thing from menacing, second it's inside. So we've called them back to ask where they are. They gave a street name and guess what? Wrong street, way wrong street, like I'm not even sure it exists in the city street. Anyway they're gonna call telepathecially communicate to the deilvery guy that we are on a different street and to get the pizza delivered soon. Now we have to wait to eat some more during which he'll probably get lost again.

Seriously my bro gave them all the info, I heard him, how do you get the street names that screwed up? The first part is the same, but the second don't even sound alike, Mustang and Wind. And then the guy delivering the pizza doesn't have a cell phone but is able to somehow contact someone? WTF? That's just bad service, I doubt he'll be getting a good tip. It's freezing her so the pizza's probably cold by now. Oh well, I'll update when, and if, the pizza shows up.

o dunno, not as bad as once pizza guy we had. he knocked once and then WALKED INTO OUR HOUSE!
i had to slam the door to the room i was getting changed in the first time he did it. and the second time i almost hit him with the door. we rarely get this delivery guy, but i am avoiding the company now just to avoid that situation. plan to report him if he does it again ( i know, wayy to lenient.

Ya know, this may be a little off topic, but with the amount of threads we have on here regarding folk who just walk into people's homes.....you gotta wonder just what the heck runs through their heads!

I mean, just today, I was smoking a cigarette and saw a guy go to the apartment building across the street, pound on a window, then went to the next window when he had no luck with the first, and then pounded on a different one, and then *GASP* (don't ask why they'd ever make windows that opened from the outside, that's just asking for trouble!) proceeded to OPEN THE WINDOW and peek inside!

That guy better have been a landlord or owner of the building. I was thisclose to calling the cops, but he gave up, got back in his car, and drove away. I locked my door and made sure to have my knives handy. Thank goodness my windows don't open from the outside, and this would be the reason my door is always locked.

About the OP's post...I would cut the delivery guy some slack. Maybe he was busy/new or received the wrong information? I would still give him my usual tip considering the amount of driving he would have put into getting the pizza to the house. I'm a forgiving sort of person, I suppose. If the pizza was cold, I would just eat it anyhow or toss it in the microwave for a minute or two. No biggie for me.

I would have complained to the management the first time it happened.

As for the OP, I agree with you!

Find out what information is on the BOX, and if it is correct, no tip. If it is incorrect, I'd give him some leniency.

Maybe you don't consider food delivery to be a "profession", but its an honest job for honest pay. No need to be snarky about it.

Sorry about the crappy service you got, though.

I'm pretty understanding about a lot of stuff when it comes to deliveries, like bad weather and the fact that my house is difficult to find even when they have the correct address. But getting one street mixed up for another is a careless mistake on someone's part that I think could have been easily avoided.

Speaking as someone who's worked in this profession for some time now, I take particular offense to your ridicule of the delivery industry.

We just recieved a call from...someone, because apparently the delivery guy doesn' have a cellphone but is still able to telepathically communicate with someone who does.
He could have used a payphone. He, or a friend, may have lived in the area and he used the phone there.

Anyway, they asked us to put our dog inside, I'm guessing because it's menacing. Two problems, first our dog is the farthest thing from menacing, second it's inside.
ALL dogs are menacing to delivery drivers. Any of them can bite, even the little cute ones or the ones that "never hurt anyone". I know. It's happened to me on more than one occassion
Yours was inside, so that's great.

I'm sorry you had so much trouble and had to wait so long. They should have offered you a discount, a freebie, or a re-cook.

And, yes, delivery is definately harder than it looks.

Just throwing this out there...but maybe the delivery guy has a cell phone but doesn't know how to block his number, so he calls back to the store to have someone call you from there? Just a thought.

So did you ever get your pizza?

The pizza place just up the road from me...

                      Good pizza, occasionally decent drivers.

They can seldom get a pizza delivered on time.

The most recent time, the guy was delivering in another town, then decided to drop mine off on the way back to the pizza joint. Ummmmmmmm, OK...

Anyhoo. After the stated 20 minutes passed, I decided to wait 5-10 more. Nothing yet. As I was about to call the place, I get a call from the driver, asking where my house is. Uh, yeah, you know the street your place of employment is on? Go down less than a mile.

45 minutes after THAT, my pizza finally arrives, I have a standing order to get a free pizza, I have a smokey treat with the delivery guy and I tip him well.

He was new to the job AND the town.

I ended up getting cold pizza, tipped the guy even though he's been out this way before and had the correct address.

I would like to make a very big apology to anyone that took offense to my comment about the delivery profession. I wasn't thinking when I typed it and was just trying to make some light hearted humor which I realize can be particularly offensive, ecspecially here. I'm going back to edit that part out. Once again, sorry for not thinking hope you can forgive me.

                          No worries!

I don't think you should have tipped the delivery guy. If he had the right address and knew where he was going, the delay was his own fault.

I've tipped for late, cold pizzas before, but never when the delivery guy was the cause of the delay.

Back on the Pizza Hut delivery times... A few co-workers and I decided to order from the local Pizza Hut one night. We were working second shift and decided to treat ourselves for putting up with the crap that the first shift left for us to do. Anyway, we call the Pizza Hut, which is literally a five minute drive from this office, and they said the delivery would be there in 30 minutes. So 30 minutes pass... Then 60 minutes pass... Another co-worker calls up to find out what's going on and they said they were slammed so it would be another hour before our delivery would get there. Lo and behold, two and a half hours after we called the order in originally the pizza finally arrives. Now, don't you think they should have told us that they were slammed when we called the first time? We did tip the delivery driver well, though, since he was super apologetic and the pizza did arrive hot. We felt bad for him and that he shouldn't be punished for somebody else not telling the proper information. And if they were short staffed on drivers, they could have told us so and one of us could have driven over to pick up the pizzas.

Slow delivery times (coupled with the fact that nobody delivers around here anyway) are the reason why I always pick up my food orders. Chances are I can call in the order, pick it up, and be done eating before the delivery person even leaves the restaurant.
Suddenly, Vermont became the epicenter of the dystopia.

Quick tips for Super Bowl pizza.

                              1. If you want it for halftime, order during the pregame show.
                              2. Do NOT call in a timed order. You won't get it when you want.
                              3. If you order during halftime, don't expect to eat before the game ends.
                              4. Yes, a 4-5 hour delivery time is normal on Super Bowl sunday.
                              5. For the love of all that holy, if you're going to be ordering for a party, call the day before and set up a carryout. It will make everyone happier.

Thank you and enjoy the game.
