  • Excitement at the KFC/Taco Bell ~ Language

Well, this weekend has been pretty eventful for me for SC sightings. I had the self-serve-cigarette idiot at Walgreens yesterday and now this:

I decide to walk across the street to the KFC/Taco Hell combo to grab a soft taco that will (unfortunately) have to suffice as my dinner tonight.

    The cast:

    Me - Hi!
    ML - man in line
    C - cashier
    OM - old man
    RB - Random bystanders
    CM - Crazy Mary

I place my order and go to fill my diet pepsi while waiting. A few other people are standing around, waiting for their food also. ML is in line getting ready to place his order, but is still looking at the board. OM has made his way to the counter to ask for some extra sauce or condiments.

I see a fairly normal looking woman in a heavy coat make her way from the back part of the seating area of the store. There's a second entrance back there. She's muttering to herself quietly, so I pay her no mind as this is fairly common in this part of town.

    All of a sudden:

CM - "I'm tired of this fucking shit. Get your fucking ass out of the way! Your fucking ass is ALWAYS in my fucking way!"

We all glance at each other curiously, wondering who she's speaking to. The OM calmly takes his sauce, moves aside and retreats. I figure maybe she's with him.

    No such luck.

She then walks up behind ML who is now about to start his order and starts cussing him.

CM - "Why are you always in my fucking way? Get out of my GD way, now!!".

ML - Looks at her, looked back at me (I shrugged) and moved out of her way. He stepped back toward me. He said "Uh, I'm gonna just be nice because there's obviously something wrong."

Me - "Ya think?", then we both quietly chuckle.

CM - "What the fuck are you assholes laughing at?", she says while turning around to glare at us.

    Me/ML/RB -

Side note: Anyone who knows me would be surprised that I didn't react or speak up. But (probably fortunately), I was too shocked.

C - "Mary, you know you're not allowed in here. Am I gonna have to call the police again?"

Needless to say, this releases a veritable TORRENT of cussing, arm flailing and stomping of feet.

    C - "Out! Now!"

    Surprisingly, she goes quietly.

We all just kinda glance around at one another with looks on our faces.

ML - (to me) "I thought she was with you at first."
RB - "I think everyone kinda thought she was with someone else."

Then we all kind of nervously chuckle and continue to wait.

    C
    - "Is she still in the parking lot?" (since, from her vantage point, she can't see where she went.)

Me - "Uh, yeah. She's out there cussing at some lady in a minivan. What's wrong with her, anyway?"

    C - "I don't know. She's been banned from every restaurant around here. I think she's mental."

At this point, I get my food and proceed to the exit. I have to walk around the building to get to the other side and cross the street back to my office. She's out there in the side lot at this point, and has picked on another car to harass. Woman in this car had a look on her face as she was attempting to back her car up.

In hindsight, it probably would have been best if the cops had been called. It was funny at the time, but clearly the woman needs some help, poor thing..

That woman needs help, especially if she's been banned from every restaurant.

Hmm... She's been banned from all the restaurants, she's probably like that anywhere she goes... At this point she's not a candidate for a Darwin, but maybe if she gets banned from the grocery stores, she might starve, that might qualify her... Though she seems to have something genuinely wrong in her head, which might disqualify her...
Pretend there's something here that sounds insightful, but is really just some pseudo-intellectual bull.

Darwin awards are for people who should know full well that what they are doing is dangerous, but go ahead and do it anyway.

It's an award given to someone who has seemingly advanced the intelligence of the species because of their untimely death as a result of their own careless and thoughtless acts.

It is not for people who are mentally unstable or ill.

To suggest that she deserves to get herself out of the gene pool just because she is mentally unstable is completely off base and inappropriate.

I would hope there would be no further suggestions along that line.
Too tired of living and too tired to end it. What a conundrum.

Having served a lady who acts like that on many an occasion (who caused people to hide in other shops because of it) I can say she needs help. DESPERATELY.

(The lady I mentioned has spent time in mental health wards and has been sectioned under s136 of the mental health act since then (but was subsequently released)).
A PSA, if I may, as well as another.

Yeah - once I got over my shock, I felt badly for her. This woman clearly was in need of medical evaluation and/or attention.

It's just another shining example of how terrible our mental-health care system is in my particular state.

I think its a little more widespread than just your state...

A great line from a Comic Strip Presents episode called "Didn't You Kill My Brother?":

We decided to integrate them into society by closing the centre down and letting them roam the streets all day.

Any lengthy comments I have about this would belong in Fratching, but I have a lot of nostalgia for the old NHS system.
