  • I was an EAR witness to a suck

Went to the local Safeway grocery store today to pick up medication & some few odds & ends. I put my purchases into my car, drop the buggy off in the buggy corral, get back into my car & crack my windows to allow air in.

As I'm getting ready to back out & after putting my seatbelt on, I'm looking about me to make sure no one's behind so I can back out.

Then I hear some guy screaming:

"What the f&^# wh!@3!! Stupid b!*#@. You f*&#ing speed up when you see me crossing the road? F&^# you wh!@3!"

Tons of people in the parking lot around. They're all looking at the person. I, fortunately, can't see him. Sheesh. Anger management, yes?

Considering that it sounds like someone just tried to hit him with her car, I think he has every right to be pissed.

Ummm... if it was some one nearly running him over while he had right of way he was PERFECTLY JUSTIFIED in saying that.

Anger management? Suck? I would have done the same thing.

For all I know, he was already at his destination before the person sped up. That's happened to me, I get to the curb, far away from the middle of the road, and the car whizzes past me. Plus, if he saw the car speeding up, he could have walked a little quicker, even half-run. No one was rushing to his aid to see if he was okay. No one was loudly agreeing with him. He was just screaming as loud as he could. Plus, the people around where I live seem to just enjoy being loud and vociferous.

He has no reason to have to run across the f-ing road because a car is speeding towards him. The jackass in the car should be slowing down for the pedestrian.

To be fair, they only heard this, they did not really witness this. To blame the driver without all the facts is unfair. I myself have driven down the aisles of a parking lot at a reasonable speed and had people just walk right in front of the car either because they did not bother to look before crossing or just didnt care or were just plain arrogant enough to think that I will stop no matter what because I would not DARE hit them. Then they get bent out of shape about it. Hey idiots, you ever hear of bad reaction time or brake failure. It has never happened to me but then again, I know the proper way to drive and I was taught how to look before crossing the street during my formative years.

Blaming anyone in this situation isn't completely fair. However, everyone seems agreed that someone was sucky. We're just not sure if it was the driver or if it was the pedestrian.

The number of times where I've almost been hit at a particular intersection because one lane of traffic stops, and I start to cross, but some fark-wit whips into the second lane and blows past me is scary. And yeah, I let loose with a string of profanity similar to that guy's.

But by the same token, the number of times I've crossed a parking lot in a semi-meandering fashion, and been looking the wrong direction, I'm surprised I've never really made a driver angry.

And now that I've completely derailed the discussion, I return you to the rest of the thread...

And to blame the pedestrian is unfair by that same exact token.

Thus, good sighting, but presumptuous comment.

I assumed vehicle at fault initially because where I live, drivers are f***ing idiots.

I've been honked at when a vehicle had to stop short, while I was crossing at a green light and the driver was turning..... At an intersection that has, from every directive, 3 visible "No Turns" signs.

And this has happened multiple times.

Maybe I should also mention there is a crosswalk about 2 lanes up from where I was parked at. Which means, where the guy was walking, he was technically jaywalking. Does that fact make the scenario any different?

Not to me. Those crosswalks are useless in parking lots. People are always technically speeding in parking lots anyway. Most are supposed to be like 5 or 10 mph.

Today, while driving home from the post office, I had a guy start crossing the street even though the light said don't walk (meaning traffic perpendicular to his direction of movement had the green light, and traffic parallel to him was stopped)

Just stepped right out into the street as I was starting to come through the intersection. I had to hit the brakes to avoid him. I know pedestrians generally have the right of way, but common sense should dictate that he shouldn't have started to cross.

As for this situation, it's hard to tell, but unless the guy had a few screws loose I can't figure out another explanation for his outburst other than somebody gunned it while he was trying to cross.
