Actually, believe it or not, the innards of an etch-a-sketch is pure ground aluminum, and the iron oxide is rust. when burned together in controlled amounts, it creates a compound known as Thermite, which burns at upwards of (if I remember correctly) 4000 degrees F. It's quite a well known trick, but it's fun none the less.

Personally I used an angle grinder, I wish I knew about the pyro method then!

However it was on a wooden shed so it probably wouldn't have been the best idea...

Thermite: you just made me think of the 911 conspiracy theories and I had a mental image of terrorists trying to draw boobs on an etch a sketch......I think I need help.
