    I don't know, Blas...

I think I'd rank the Dakotas, Minnesota, Maine, Colorado, and maybe another state or two above Wisconsin in terms of bad winters (cold wise).

And then there's Michigan and upper New York state with their lake effect snow...

While everyone is fixated on cold area and tanning, I'm more surprised that you get your shot in the hip.
I get Depo too, and I don't know, just couldn't imagine it going in my hip.
But then again I'm a big sissy and my doctor always puts a numbing agent on the area first and I turn my head away.

All I need is a lollipop and I'm four again.

Like I said, most nurses sigh or act inconvenienced when I ask for it in my hip....it's a much bigger muscle and with my job, I cannot have a numb or painful arm. I stand pretty much all night so it doesn't bother me if my butt hurts. I'm not afraid of needles and really could care less, but to me, out of sight is out of mind. Plus it hurts a lot less than any shot I've ever gotten in my arm. The only time getting the shot hurts is when I get a stupid nurse who jams the damn thing in there like there's no tomorrow....or the ones who pull it out, push it back in, and ask "Does this hurt? I'm so sorry!"

Wow that sounded so wrong, but you know what I mean.

I get mine in the hip as well - the nurse I had last time did the stabby-motion thing, and it bloody hurt. I didn't get a lollipop, either.

Fun fact: With any muslce or fat mass injection, most of the discomfort is due to the cold temperature of the agent being injected.

I respectfully disagree. I once had a penicillin shot in the hip--very cold, very viscous (thick), very large bore needle--it really did not hurt all that much, but I'm sure glad I did NOT see the needle till afterwards! Tetanus shots, on the other hand...or lidocaine... those hurt like a son of a gun! (ok, so lidocaine is not IM or IL, it still hurts!)
Everything will be ok in the end. If it's not ok, it's not the end.

My store manager is from Upper Michigan. He told me that in Marquette, which is right on Lake Superior, people have snowblowers on their roofs because of all the lake-effect snow they get.

I'd agree with the Dakotas and Minnesota in terms of cold. But then again, I live practically on Lake Michigan, which moderates the cold somewhat. The trade-off is the four magic words in every weather report during spring and summer: "Cooler Near The Lake"

We do get plenty of snowstorms, but few blizzards, which have a specific meteorologic definition. I think blizzards happen more in the Dakotas and Minnesota and in the Great Plains.

I was told that my allergy shots hurt because of the preservative used in the serum.
