I don't remember the exact date, but I think it was 4/3.

I went to Wal-Mart to get a money order for my rent, as I didn't have the cash on me to go to Amscot, that usually has a shorter line but only takes cash.

So, I'm waiting in line, and the lady in front of me is almost done. I don't know what kind of transaction she was doing, return or exchange, or what, or even if she was giving money to the CSR, or receiving money back. By the time I even started paying attention to her, I was too shocked at her rudeness to even notice.

The CSR had written the amount on the paper, and the CS looked at it and read it wrong. Instead of saying, "oh, I couldn't read it" she goes "your handwriting is so horrible! you need to learn to write". And it was said in all-seriousness, no joking whatsoever.

Then, while we're all still in shock (there was the (black) CSR, a (white) CSM, and the greeter right there), she starts on with how it's Martin Luther King's Day, and it's because of her skin color that we should be respecting her (she was black), and we're rude and the CSR is too stupid to even write correctly, and she's gone through hell because of people like us, and a bunch of other things I blocked out because she was being aggravating and despicable.

The CSR called me up and started ignoring her, which caused the SC to yell louder about how this is a day we should be honoring *her* because of what black people have gone through and what she personally went through. The CSM is ordering her to leave, NOW! because she's getting even louder and yelling at other customers who are walking in the store.

The CSR was quiet through the whole exchange, even after she's gone and everyone's remarking with the typical "I would have slapped her/said worse things/etc" she's quiet, just shrugging it off.

This was all over someone's handwriting. Nobody had even said anything to this woman about anything *not* related to her transaction.

When I was still in high school, I went to a college fair. You know, one of those affairs where a bunch of colleges set up tables in a gymnasium somewhere and high school students and their parents can stop at each table and ask the college representative questions about their school, pick up pamphlets and booklets about the college, sign up for more information, etc.

I stopped at the booth for the University of New Orleans (don't ask me why) and filled out a sheet requesting more information or something.

Even under the best of circumstances, my handwriting looks like a pen threw up. I handed the sheet to the man behind the table and he started criticizing my handwriting. "Your handwriting is so sloppy! I can't even read this! You should learn to write more clearly!"

To this day, he is the only person who's ever had a serious hang-up with my handwriting. I would like to at least thank him for making my college search a little bit easier, as he pretty much crossed his school off my list.
Knowledge is power. Power corrupts. Study hard. Be evil.

Um....Martin Luther King Day is actually in January. Isn't it usually a Monday? I remember it's been on my birthday (Jan 20) before...

ugh, I hate the people that want something special for being a minority. I haven't done anything to you, I've never owned a slave, I've never sprayed anyone with a fire hose, I've never beaten anyone with anything for their skin color, or any other protected status, and if you lived through segregation, it was 2 of my lifetimes ago, I'm not saying forget or forgive, but I wasn't even alive when that was happening, don't blame me. and it wasn't even MLK Jr day.....

irony... wanting "respect" for her race, while disrespecting others.

if she wanted something special for MLK day, she should have started with the idea that *everyone* deserves respect. not just her.
