  • Wally World Fun Part 2

Since I just posted about an SC at Wal-Mart, I felt it was only fair to praise the few cashiers who have the guts to respect people.

I live in a high-tourist area. I also, when I choose to shop Wal-Mart, shop at 2 different brand new Super Wal-Marts, 1 of which is very near the airport, but still new enough that not many people know about it, the other is in a highly trafficked tourist area.

So the other night after I got off work, I stopped by the high-tourism area store for a couple little items. It was still kinda early, around 4:30p on a Sunday, so pretty busy. As is standard practice at most retail locations, there were very few lanes open, and they all had lines.

I wanted a pack of cigarettes, and, for those that don't know, there is only 1 register that one can buy those little sticks of cancery goodness at, which is also a 10 items or less lane.

I'm walking up the lane, when the guy with a VERY full buggy ahead of me walks past a couple of lanes with long lines, and then sees the Express Lane and it's short, quick-moving line, and promptly pushes his buggy into line.

Now, all of us who like to run into a store quickly, pick up a couple items quickly, and pay and leave said store quickly, lets cheer for what the cashier did next: He pointed to the SIGN above his head that says "10 Items or Less" and "you'll need to go to one of the regular lines".

Wait... You mean the management there allows their cashiers to correct a customer?

    I call shenanigans!

      Gasp! Shock! Faint!

I've never been able to enforce that while on a cig register myself, since even though there's the short express-length counter for goods instead of a full belt, it "wasn't fair" to the customers with large purchases who felt the need to buy cigarettes as well. I can sort of see that, but I also would've loved to enforce the rule (mostly due to lack of space).

Don't get me started on the customers who went to non-cigarette lanes and couldn't understand why they couldn't buy cigarettes at those lanes. ::sigh::

the WMs I've been in have 2 registers at the smoke shop, what they should do is have one regular lane for most common usage, and an express lane there as the secondary lane. but that would make too much sense.

between my CSMs and management they usually get the lines under control fairly quickly, are you sure it was wal mart? making customers follow the rules?

yeah, i *never* used register # 19 at the walmart i went to in VA. unless i was buying smokes for a friend.

(and they carded me! but i took it as a compliment cos the lady at the register thought i was under 25...and i was about 2 weeks away from 32)

now sometimes i'll get away with over the minimum # of items, but usually that's when i'm like 1 or two over and the stuff's so easy to scan they don't care. tho i tended to use self-check out whenever possible.

Then you'll love going to Walgreen's then. There they have signs clearly posted that everyone under 40 must be IDed for cigs. And they don't even sell adult beverages!

The little Shell station near my old house had a sign "We Card Everyone". I liked that.

When ever I'm on a smoke wall register at WM it asks if the person looks under 40 but of the buttons are messed up so if I push no they don't look under it promts me to get their ID and birthdate. If I press yes it goes through so that I don't have to check their ID. It's weird and screwy.
