One thing the USA doesn't seem to get about all these anti-counterfeiting measures....

How are they any good if the older money is still considered legal tender?

    Think about it....
    Our system works quite nicely.

    Note style issued.

    New note style issued

    Old stlye revoked

    Few months grace period

After this time all notes can still be exchanged at <Any Bank> but can't be spent in stores, shops etc.

Even notes that are hundreds of years old can still be exchanged at the Bank of England, for their face value.
A PSA, if I may, as well as another.

It's not an immediate fix, it's one that works better over time. For instance, someone showing up with a bunch of uncolored $20s now is going to look kinda suspicious... especially if they all look on the new side.

Works about the same here. Though, after a longer period, you can only change the older notes for new ones in a Banque de France branch. After an even longer period, the note (or coin, for all that matters) becomes nothing more than a collectible item.

So sorry to toss this in, I have to share this. A bit OT, but it made me giggle tons...

Me: (to BF after reading of this thread) Hey, apparently fives are going to be purple now.
BF: Hmm? They're going to be Epics?

First time I saw a new $5 I thought I had received a Canadian bill cause of the purple number 5.

The new Venezualian money is beautiful.

Just wait, they'll probably change them again.

And no thread about new/counterfeit money is complete without the Taco Bell $2 bill story.

Just after the new purple fives came out, my uncle tried to pay with one and the cashier refused because she thought it was a fake!
