I haven't returned that harness yet. In all the hubbub I managed to misplace the receipt, but after cleaning out my car I found it. However, I overslept today and had to rush out the door to get to work, and forgot the harness.
Anyway, the new "problem" with my stereo is that the bass sounds too harsh. Driving around after getting the soldered harness in place, the bass was intense and rattling everything to bits.
I'm thinking that maybe the crappy smart harness might not have been working properly from Day One, causing something less than the full signal to reach the speakers. Now that I have a known good system all around, I think I might for the first time be hearing what my speakers ACTUALLY sound like.
Or it might just be me. After 33 days without a head unit, I may have forgotten what the system sounded like. Sort of like how if you haven't heard a song in a long time, it might seem a little different than you remembered it when you do hear it.
My money's on the former though. At the same volume setting, I don't recall the system makigng my head hurt before. Either way I'm going to have to play with the EQ settings some.
