I try not to judge my customers based on their clothing too much...

The "average joes" will oftentimes haggle less and be more interested in buying accessories than the person who goes out of their way to look wealthy.

It's safer not to treat someone according to your assumptions.
I will not shove “it” up my backside. I do not know what “it” is, but in my many years on this earth I have figured out that that particular port hole is best reserved for emergency exit only. -GK

Heh. Sounds about right. The people I've met who have enough to be considered Wealthy (As opposed to merely Rich. You can spend Rich. Wealthy you can't get rid of unless you try!) all tend to dress "for comfort". The only way to tell them from a typical "penniless slob" if they haven't affected some form of understated-yet-expensive accessory (watch, leather jacket, etc) is for them to do something like dropping $10k on a computer in hard cash.
reminds me of tony stark in iron man, he looked all sloppy sometimes and you wouldnt think he was a rich genius not a crazy loon

Ratty looking farmers will easily spend $250,000 on a tractor.
Not quite that much, but I remember once when I was in my teens, my father came in from the barn and said "lets go get a new truck". He didn't bother to change so was wearing his work clothes. Salesman wouldn't give him the time of day.. Daddy overheard him tell another salesman that he didn't have time for "lookers".

We left there fast. Went about 10 miles further to the next Chevy dealer where we picked out the truck and paid cash. Daddy then proceded to sell them our old truck (for like $200.00) had the plates transfered and headed out in our new truck.

Of course Daddy drove straight back to the first dealer pulled up right in front of the door. Found the salesman and said that since he was so fond of "lookers", he had something he wanted him to look at. The "look" on his face was priceless when dad showed him the bill of sale which basicly said "cash sale... Paid in Full"

If ultimately you let the people that fuck you over decide your attitude then they won.

My uncle ran his farm for what seemed like a million years, and he never dressed up for anything.

When he decided he wanted a computer about, oh, 10 years ago, I took him with me to Fry's Electronics and we looked at Macs and PCs before he finally decided on a couple. He wanted to know more, but no one would talk to him. But they'd give me the time of day, and try to sell me the clock to boot.

I just kept pointing to my uncle, saying ask him, he's the one who wants to buy the computer. Finally, this young kid who couldn't have been older than me comes up, helps us and my uncle makes his decision. He then tells the kid to follow us, goes to pay and asks for the manager. When the manager arrives he tells the manager "If you had more people in your departments who cared about their job as much as this kid did, then maybe you'd have more sales today."

I wasn't surprised to go back a few months later to see this kid the head of the department.
          Random conversation:
Me: Okay..so I think I get why Zoro wears a bandana
          DDD: Cuz it's cool

So, by using the Doctor's reasoning, bow ties, fezzes and bandanas are cool.

People shouldn't be too quick to judge, or else this may happen.

Is it wrong that I hope both the teller and the manager lost their jobs?

Not really, they were being rude and stupid. Seriously, how difficult is it to stamp a parking voucher?! All that fuss and they ended up losing a major customer.
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

If you would see my boss on the street you would just think it was another old man. He is actually worth multi-millions. He just went and for his wife's birthday bought her a new car paying cash for it.

Similar thing happened to me this week.

In Sears TV shopping, had to ask for help from a manager. A guy who was new took me, and I bought over $1000 worth of stuff from him. Hope he got a nice bonus.

At my old job in retail, one of our regular customers was Jake Jabs, who owns the American Furniture Warehouse chain. The rich guy with all the pet tigers.

Every time we saw him he was dressed in jeans and an old t-shirt, and one of the most jovial and pleasant guys on earth.

A couple years ago, I was looking for a sapphire ring. No real reason, I just wanted one.

I look a bit younger then my age, and of course I was dressed casually.

I was at the mall, and saw a gorgeous one at some snooty jewelry store. It was around $200, and I was more then willing to pay for it. In cash. All the salespeople ignored me.

I went to Kohl's, of all places, and found an even better ring for $50. The saleslady was nice. I bought it, and everyone was happy.

I love going to Rogers and Hollands. They have ALWAYS been fantastic to me.

When I bought Becks' and my earrings at JC Penney last month, the lady was really nice to me when I asked how much they were, and understood when I told her I had to think about it. I was THRILLED to be able to go back and buy two pairs of earrings from her.
                      I'm bringing disdain back...with a vengeance.

Oh, and your tool box called...you got out again.
