  • But it's right there! (Not sucky, just weird)

My mom took me to Panda Express for lunch, after buying my textbooks for me (I love my mom!). So we go in, and we look at the selection for a bit before ordering. While we're looking, a couple of ladies come in. Since my mom and I aren't ready to order, we tell the ladies they can order before us.

The first lady ordered the fried rice (and some other things, I wasn't paying that much attention) and the second lady started asking if the fried rice had eggs in it.

Most fried rices come with egg in them as far as I know, and besides, the rice is right there! you can see the egg in it. The second lady wasn't that bad, she was told that there were eggs in the fried rice, and ordered plain white rice. It just confused me.

Actually, around my area, most fried rice does NOT have eggs in it. And if you're allergic to eggs like one of my best friends, it pays to double check. Granted, if he could see the rice, he probably wouldn't ask.

Odd. All the fried Rice's I've eaten/seen has eggs in it. Even the fried rice my BF makes.

I may be off here, but isn't that how you make fried rice? Drop an egg in the wok with it, and maybe some pork, beef, or chicken?

Really, it all depends on the region and country in which the recipe came from.

Southern Chinese, for example, like to add shrimp to their fried rice... really, they just add shrimpt to everything and call it 'Family' (chicken, beef and shrimp) and if you think about it, it makes sense since the region is so close to the sea. Shrimp is highly acessible. Norther regions stay away from the shrimp and substitute something else.

But really, recipe aside, it all depends on the chef. I stay away from eggs and 'shrooms. I add a lime instead.

And lots of celery because the hubs loves it.

              I'm One-a Those

Yeah, that's me.. no eggs, no dairy, nada.. stupid food allergy! Actually may end up being a Sulfate allergy, but that's neither here nor there.. Aaaaanyway..

I can understand asking, as long as they weren't sucky about it - lots of places put cheese/eggs/other painfood into food items without mentioning it - I have gotten MANY dinners where I've said "no cheese", or explained my allergy, and still gotten a side salad/entree which has cheese sprinkled on it.. even my calamari for crying out loud!
