  • Late night at Wally World..

    Not sucky...just made me laugh.

Im strolling about with my cart and this kid walks past me and pointing behind him, saying "He wants to buy beer in Walmart!!!" *snicker snicker*

I look behind him and theres a guy with an empty cart LOUDLY talking to himself about beer. Now instead of telling him otherwise..the kid just laughed in his face and scurried away.

As I pass the guy, he's half yelling/slurring "Whassa matta? No one in Pennsylvania be drinking the beer? Wheres the beer?" etc....

So, I slow and tell him that PA stores do not sell beer in the grocery stores...never have...He then asked if the Amish were at fault... Which made me crack up.

Once he understood that..he stopped his rant and said Thank you and smiled...

All it takes is a little kindness..I dont understand why that 1st kid couldnt have told him there was no beer instead of laughing in his face...

Plus it was after 12am....isnt that when the beer aisles get corded off?

    Depends on the state.

Frankly, sounds like the punk bitch that was laughing at him hadn't ever been outside of Pennsylvania. Pathetic.

2 a.m. is the cut off around here. Beer and wine in grocery stores, but no Hard A.
Expect great things, but you'll get what you get.

yeah it all depends on the state.

back home in NY the only alcohol in the grocery stores is beer. If you want wine or liquor you have to go to a liquor store. and on sundays they don't sell beer before noon. I'm not sure what the cutoff time is tho.

in Virginia they sell wine and beer in the grocery stores. Mixed drinks too like those jack daniel's coolers. I don't remember but i think you had to go to the liquor store for the hard stuff still. and after midnight they didn't sell.

i'm in hawaii right now - quick break (yay) and i just bought a single serving wine from an ABC ... i think it was after midnight so i guess they don't have that law here. I don't remember if grocery stores can sell more than beer... but ABC apparently has a license to sell the hard stuff too so who knows. I'll check it out tomorrow

I know here in CA you can purchase just about any alcohol in the grocery stores. I'm not sure of any time considerations, though, as I don't buy the stuff, and if I did, it would be during the day.

In Wisconsin, beer is handed out with cafeteria lunches in schools.

Okay, not really, but there are no restrictions on alcohol sales that I know of. Beer, wine and liquor are available in grocery stores and there are plenty of liquor stores besides. The only regulations on these places may be closing times.

In VA, you can get beer and wine almost anywhere until midnight. Hard stuff is restricted to ABC stores that usually close at 8 or 9 pm. DC has their last call at 2:30 am for Friday and Saturday, and 1:30 am for other days. I always have to remind my NY friends about this when we come down to VA for conventions.
In NY, the official last call is about 4 am, with certain cities(Rochester, Syracuse, Elmira) restricting it to sooner times. That's because big industrial cities like NYC and Buffalo have second and third shift workers that need a nightcap after work.

Liqour stores close at 9pm...no alcohol in grocery stores and the bars close at 2am PROMPTLY!!!!! Also, no after hours spots...thats what I get for living in the middle of Amish country.

In California, you can't sell liquor between 2 am and 6 am -- at least that was the cutoff when I was working in a store many years ago. Same with restaurants and bars.

You can add Ithaca to that list, I'm pretty sure it's 2am there, but I was only at the grocery store there 2 months, so I could be wrong. (Hey, technically it's a city.)
