Yeah, it actually was. Dad enlisted rather than be drafted so he could have more say over what he did in the forces. So he signed up as a meteorologist. I think he was stationed at a fort in New Jersey at the time.

Came close, but he was never sent to Vietnam.

He absolutely HATED the Army.

I'm 23 years old and have a dad who was in the Army during the mid '60s. As you can guess, I was a 'surprise'.

But yeah, not all soldiers are fighters. I wouldn't have thought they'd be meteorologist in the military, but I guess they need as accurate a weather forecast as possible as much as, if not more than, anyone else...
