  • HSBC suck

you know... for the most part I love my HSBC Mastercard, they have good terms, and they base interest off of individual purchases, not monthly balace (at least on my contract), which means that I have 31 days from day of purchase to pay it off without interest rather than until the end of the month... oh yeah, and I get 2% Best Buy rewards with every purchase... but there is one thing they just started last week that is seriously making me go

I have a payment in process so I can pay down my card enough to hopefully get most of my tuition onto my credit card (2% back, then pay it off immediately)... and for some reason the fact that I have a payment in process LOWERED my available credit... that's right, my efforts to PAY them have resulted in me having less available credit.

who the hell thought that made any sense what so ever
and sense it's a large payment I can't use my card at all because it is basically my entire credit limit that I'm paying down.

    Smiley not happy.

ETA, completely unrelated, but after posting this I was walking down the hall in the student center and the school is advertising the price roll back on Pepsi products, and they are doing this by having a huge animatronic bear holding a bottle of Pepsi yelling out at you to come in to buy the now cheaper Pepsi... creepy beyond belief.

i'm not surprised really. credit companies don't actually want you to pay off the cards.

mom had one card canceled on her because she kept paying it off completely each month. she actually has to pay just minimum payment once in a while just to make sure the current cards don't suffer the same fate.

Credit card companies love it when you carry a balance from month to month. That's how they make money-from the fees they add from the balances. So if someone pays off a card each month then te credit card company isn't making any money off of you.
They call people who pay off their cards each month "deadbeats". How do I know all this? Just check out creditboards.com for all your credit related questions.

They must really hate me and my dad.. we pay our cards in full every month, and have for years.

Oh, don't get me started about bank charges. That's a saga all on it's own.

Suffice it to say, the British banks are all fighting tooth and nail to retain the privilege of charging £30+ every time they reject a (non-card) transaction for lack of funds. And then charging unauthorised-overdraft fees upon those charges.

I got my charges reversed (to the tune of £500+), by waving the court in their faces. They then promptly closed my account, apparently out of spite. Or maybe just because I wasn't a "profitable customer".

Over the last few months i fell into financial difficulty thanks to a forced house-move which is a whole 'nother rant.

Because of this i went into unauthorised overdraft a few times, not intentionally but occasionaly things happen, including being ripped off to the tune of £100 by a removals company and a burglary that left me holding the bill for a new door.

HSBC, didn't like that, which i can understand. However they decided to go through a few questions with me (Wages, payday, any savings, any other bank account etc) which is fair enough.

They then sent me a letter stating that they were closing my account and that my overdraft (Nearly £2000) was now repayable effective immediately....

Ok, so i go into unauthorised overdraft because i have no money....how in the deity-of-your-choice's name am i supposed to pay back £2000?

I gave them a call about it and they said if i didn't pay then they would send me to a dabet collection agency....well, my entire posessions probably come to about £500 worth of stuff total....they're welcome to those if they wish.

I'll acknowledge tha the suck is 90% on my part for having the overdraft and falling into the problems in the first place but i still feel they could hav handled it a bit better...ah well.

Anyway, i caused a fuss via the citizen's advice bureau because i had documented evidence of sending proof of the problems i had (including police reports etc) and a load of other stuff, and they have now decided they won't close my account but i have to start repaying my overdraft.

Fortunately all my past arrears are now dealt with, so i can actually afford to do so, and to be honest i don't mind, at least now they're asking for installments and not full ammount, and i think i'd rahter not have an overdraft hanging over my head anyway.

It's an insult that I will bear with pride.
