  • But that’s the DOWN escalator

I saw this earlier today and thought I’d share: I was in a local shop and was using the slow-moving escalator to go up to the second floor and right next to this escalator was one going back down. As I was going up, I turned round to look at the floor I’d just been on and saw a woman and her 5/6 year old daughter approach the escalators. The daughter was slightly ahead of the woman and ran up to the ‘down’ one and pretended she was pulling the moving handrail towards her, as small children often do. There was no-one but me on either escalator, so she wasn’t in anyone’s way.

Then her mother came along and, obviously in a hurry, tried to push her daughter up the down escalator that was coming towards her, saying, ‘Come on, come on, stop messing about.’ The little girl tried to tell her mother it was the wrong one but the mother was completely oblivious and made several attempts to walk up the wrong escalator!

By this time I’d turned completely around on the other escalator and was watching this genius with an open mouth. She looked up and saw me, happily moving up to the next floor, before making one last futile attempt to walk up the downward-moving escalator. She then stopped and said angrily to her daughter, ‘Well, that’s not the right one!’ before moving to the correct one. By this time I’d reached the next floor and was able to flee, laughing, away from them.

That wouldn't be so funny if there wasn't a town in Utah called Midvale...

which oddly my mother couldn't figure out was MID VALlEy... as if the name didn't give it away

what is it about the name midvale that encourages stupidness?

Yes I did. There was a tiny cartoon on the bottom of the side with the kid pounding on the door, too.
