I got spanked on a regular basis growing up....with hands and the wooden spoon. I was out one day with a friend, I forget exactly where, but in the kitchen section. My friend looks over, and quite seriously says, that looks like the spatula my mother used to beat me with. I lost it completely!

And while teasing my cousin about how his mom used to hold up a spatula and say his name, and how funny it was, he said she got really mad one day, not because he was misbehaving, but because she broke it done day swatting him with it!

One childhood friend knew he was in trouble and quickly slipped a wide flat piece of metal into his back jean pocket. His mom brought the wooden spatula down and twing! She started laughing so hard she couldn't finish. Rather ruined his punishment.

When a restaurant, I took my misbehaving younger sister into the bathroom, where my other sister was washing her hands and an older lady followed us in. I gave the kid two quick swats on her behind and told her to "cut it out!" Not even a spanking. After we left, the woman said something about child abuse to my other sister, who took great delight in letting her know who she was.

My mother always favored a small wooden cutting board shaped much like a ping pong paddle. My father usually left punishments of that nature up to my mother, but when he did get involved, he generally used his bare hand.

I once got in SO much trouble by filling the back pockets of my jeans with thumbtacks...

          XD

My parents used hands, on the back of the legs and then only in the case of dire crimes. I got a smacking for pushing my little brother down the stairs; my younger brothers both got smacked and sent to bed for playing with matches. XD Mostly, even just the threat of getting a smack was enough to provoke better behaviour.

I must say, i can't help but think of Bill Cosby and THE BELT- It was eight feet long and it had hooks on it, and it would tear the meat from your body if it ever hit you. (i think that's right, doing it from memory, and its been years since i've heard it).
oh I loved that Bill Cosby clip... I also love when he adds "we never actually saw the belt"

oh and my mother used a walking staff... she used it a total of 3 times... I remember each and every time, and I deserved each and every time.

OK, I don't know how we missed this one, but spanking kids is one of those topics that clearly belongs on Fratching. You're welcome to continue the discussion there.
