  • Here's a hint - learn math!!

I was in Publix today picking up a couple of things. I was in the checkout when the guy in front of me decided to argue with the cashier.

Cust: How much were the juice?
Cashier: They rang up $1.33 each - you can see it here (points to the screen facing the customer)
    Cust: But they're on sale - 3 for $4.
Cashier: Let me check, yes they are. Oh, and that is how much they rang up as.
Cust: No, they ring up at different prices, two are $1.33 and the other is $1.34.
Cashier: That adds up to $4 since they are 3 for $4.

It went on for a couple of minutes.

I was also stuck behind a lady at Petco who decided to hold up the line so she could fill out her PetPals card application (the cashier already was done with her and scanned the card, but she was blocking the aisle while she filled out out). Move out of the way lady!!

Ive been there and seen that. Had one guy 1. start adding up all his items by hand, and not get out of the way after he paid. 2. then find a possible mistake (item scanned twice that was removed) 3. start calling the cashier stupid, even tho she pointed out the -3.59 that he was adding in 4. say Kmart is so much better, and their cashiers are smarter too! It ended when a manager heard his rant, pulled him to customer service counter and highlighted the removal bwa ha ha.
Crono: sounds like the machine update became a clusterf*ck..
pedersen: No. A clusterf*ck involves at least one pleasurable thing (the orgasm at the end).

I've had both happen to me before. The customers who can't figure out that three items for $4 = two for $1.33 and one for $1.34, and then decide to argue rather than move out of the way so I can ring up the next customer. It usually takes adding it up on paper for them to prove the point. ::sigh::

And I've been yelled at for triple-charging someone for a single item, when it's clearly an accidental double-scan followed by an item removal (minus sign and all). What was worst was when this was the only item the customer purchased, and they couldn't seem to figure out that ringing up a $10 item three times would've required them to pay far more than the $10.70 they actually paid. It took sending them to a CSM to get that taken care of.
