  • Wait... WHAT?!

So there was this dollar movie theater that my best friend and I would go to once a week and see a movie or 2.
We're about half an hour early, get our tickets(look no line!), get popcorn and a drink, and since the benches are taken and I can't stand for more than 5 minutes at a time we sit down on the floor in an out of the way corner. We're minding our own business watching the seating sign, waiting for it to light up when an officer approaches us...
And kicks us out for loitering! We did point out that we had tickets, popcorn and drink. His responce? Go home and come back closer to time for your movie. Its 20 min till the movie starts at this point.
I'm sorry we PAID MONEY to be here and its obvious we spent money here. THAT'S NOT LOITERING!

An half an hour early, 20 min at that point and a person had a problem with it?

People are told to show up 45min-1hr for movies at some of the theater's I've gone to (a few of the shows I was told an hour and a half to two hours early would be better [Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, etc]) - almost all have said it's better to be there 30 min prior to the movie start time. Worst case, people are waiting.

I'd be assuming you commented that the movie was only 20 min from then? That's just screwed up -- and not loitering.

Unfortunately the Good Ole Boy system was in effect and when we complained to his superior we got told off.
And people wonder why I don't like cops.(Oh the stories I could tell!)

That is absolutely ridiculous! I would have turned into the biggest jerk at that point and had a few choice words with that man...

              Hmmm.....

              "good ole boy"

I have questions but I'm afraid they would come off as inappropriate.

Except he's a cop, and it would likely gotten you in more trouble than it was worth.

Was he a real cop, or a rent-a-cop? Real cop, point out the fact that you aren't loitering, and if he bucks that, call his supervisor (that is, not at the theatre, but the duty-corporal or duty-sergeant.) If he's a rent-a-cop (to include an off-duty police officer) tell him to piss off and get bent.

My guess would be one of these new idling laws they've put into effect in some places.

It targets drive-thru's specifically, and is meant to cut down on air pollution from idling cars. Basically, if you're not moving for more than 30 seconds or something, you're supposed to shut your engine off.

I always found this sort of law kinda retarded. It's my understanding that starting up a car causes more pollution in the process of turning it over than running it at idle for several minutes. (I could be wrong)

Wow... I'm sorry that kinda shit happened.

If you pay for service, you ain't loitering, additionally, at 20 minutes till, everyone should be there, and that guy had no right to pull that crap.

If he's a real cop, his real supervisor, at the P.D., not the theater, should be alerted, and will likely give him hell.

I hope you don't hate all the boys in blue, after all, if you did, you wouldn't be able to enjoy the stories I'll have for y'all in about 10 years.

Only 6700 people in the town, while it was packed the first day, they also had a "one week" or so advance ticket purchase thing going on. So coming early was so you'd just get the seat you wanted. If you include ticket purchase time, I was "waiting" for about 2-3 weeks lol.

Ok, let me be more specific.
Yes a REAL COP, yes I went to his supervisor at the PD. That supervisor told me off and sided with is officer.
I've had other issues with that police department like them siding with a rapist stalker, or when told about an attempted rape it was my fault for the way I flip my hair, etc.
Like I said, the Good Ole Boy system.

Did they kick out the rest of the people who were taking up the benches? Cuz they were loitering, too, under that definition.
