Cheetahs are my favorite animals as well. It drives me up the wall when people call them leopards or the tigers lions (at least cheetahs and leopards both have spots!). I‘ve been to the Cleveland zoo before so I no the enclosure. Those cats are not escaping form there.

Have you been to the San Diego Wild Animal park? Cheetah-lover heaven!Quoth spork_the_cat View PostI‘ve been to the Cleveland zoo before so I no the enclosure. Those cats are not escaping form there.

They didn't have this when I was there, but hoping to go back next year. I might do that safari twice, even.

Take a little trip down I-71 and hit up the Cincinnati zoo. While not in the caliber of SD, we're ranked pretty high on the zoo list.Quoth Reyneth View Post. But more so, Cleveland's not the best zoo in the country (I can't wait to go back to San Diego),
Although, I can't promise your visit would be idiot-free.

Another cheetah fan! Joy
I haven been cheetah-obsessed since I was around 8. I used to love Joy Adamson (still respect her, though she did a few things I didn't like....oh well....)
And yes, oh, the lepoard vs jaguar thing....hahha....they do look a lot alike (smaller spots on the leopard) but where there is a sign......lol. Now, confusing a margay and an ocelot.....but that's another thread
Yeah, cheetahs are the wimps of the feline world, really surprising they are still around....around 10,000 or so years ago, there was a "cheetah incident," where the cats were nearly wiped out (either disease or humans) and all the cheetah now are closely realated...
Ok, I'll stop now....I can go one for along time on cheetah...though the lack of sign reading reminds me of when I was in the petstore, looking at the chinchillas. A man came up to the cage (which had a large sign) and said, "What the *expletive* is that?" I said, "A chinchilla." "hmm...looks like a hairy rat," he said, as he left. WHen he was at the door, I said, "So do you!!" He heard me.

Actually, for a while I was planning a summer of going to all of the zoos in Ohio. Then I found out there was all of 4-6 of them (depends on how you categorize zoos!). Yeah, that won't be hard. LOL I think Cinci is the only one in Ohio I haven't been to ever.Quoth Peppergirl View PostTake a little trip down I-71 and hit up the Cincinnati zoo. Ohh, yes, I remember that story well. Everyone here was so outraged over it that the thread went on for fourteen pages.Quoth Daisy View PostOf course I'm reminded of that story about the little brat that climbed some sort of fence to get to some meerkats at a zoo, got bitten, and then all the meerkats had to be put down for rabies testing.
Quoth Daisy View PostOn the other point - I also hear the idiots every time I go telling little Johnny "Oooooh look at the leopards," while standing right in front of the CHEETAH sign.
And we wonder why people are so damned stupid nowadays. They've been teaching their children to be deliberately stupid for generations now!

Um .... it can be worse.
Yes, those fences are somewhat, if not mostly, to keep the people away from the animals rather than the animals away from the people.
Have we already bashed the "zoo killing spree" story in OT or something? If not, the story is here - http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27005221/ Those who are squeamish or reptileophiles should not view.

OMG. I had heard about this, but not all the details. I'm glad that while they can't hold the kid liable, the zoo plans on suing the parents. I'm sure that will be an interesting fight.Quoth One-Fang View Post
