  • Long drawn out story of repeat suckage.

This one took place over several days, and in the end concluded with a high point, and a bit of a laugh.

    It begins:

Over the past few weeks, we started getting this really strange phone call. The caller would identify themselves as calling from (our phone company) and ask to speak with my mother. Since she can't hear well, she'd pawn the phone off on me, only to have the person on the other end hang up. This happened over a pretty good bit of time, so I decided to do some research into what's going on. So, I called financial. Spoke with a really cool guy there who said that something odd was going on, since we didn't owe anything. In fact, we were paid up through the next month due to a clerical error on my part. (sent two payments.) He stated that there was something wrong, and that I probably should ask to speak to a supervisor should this other caller call back. When I told him about being hung up on, he told me to quote "Tell them that if they hang up on you, that you'll file a report with the FCC, and that you'll be using their name in the complaint. Trust me, they'll get you their supervisor fast."

    The call:

So, a day or so passes, and we get another call. The person on the other end is very snippy about it, asking to speak to my mother, who had already told them to speak to me only. The woman got somewhat rude, and said she'd hang up if I didn't put mom on the line. So I requested to speak to her supervisor. At first she refused, but then I told her what the guy in Financial stated. The phone went quiet and I thought I'd been hung up on, but she came back and seemed to hiss "Fine, I'll transfer you." (I'm guessing the mute button was used while she cursed loudly.)

So, supervisor gets on, I tell him everything that's been going on; the repeated calls and the hang ups, and ask him why the heck I'm being called for collections since I don't owe anything.

That's when he drops the bomb. It's not a collections call. It's a fricking SALES call. I spoke with this supervisor for some time, explaining the problem with my mother, as well as the fact that I don't want their internet service. He was very understanding and said that he would speak to his people, as well as making sure that I don't get any more calls. However, since the people are paid on comission, there was a chance someone might ignore him. So, if that happened, he told me to tell them that I wanted to speak with (Dave) at extension (XXXX), and if (Dave) wasn't available, that I was to ask for (Fred) or (James). (fake names) Apparently these guys were (Dave's) supervisor, and another shift supervisor that would handle my problem. Handle I assumed to mean someone would get fired.

    The last call.

Yesterday, Oct. 14 started off normally enough. That is, until about nine in the morning. Phone rings and guess who it is? If you guessed (phone company) go ask the door man about your prize. So, mom tries to explain to this woman, and ends up getting really flustered, to the point she says "Speak with my son." I come on the line and while I admit I'm angry, I still remain polite. I remember asking the woman her name, to which she replied (Bunny) and I noted that. Then I stated that they (phone company) had been instructed not to call back in regards to this, but (Bunny) ignored me and started to rattle off her script. I have to admit I had to raise my voice to stop her, to which she replied very snipply "Sir if you continue to get hostile I'll hang up on you." Oh no she didn't. She got quiet and asked, again snipply "Now, I need to speak to (Repsac's Mom). If I can't, then I'll just call back."

"(Dave) said you wouldn't call in the first place." I said. Now I had her attention, She got quiet and I asked in this deadpan tone "Are you still there?" "Yeah..." (Bunny) replied. "You know (Dave) don't you? Shift supervisor...why, in fact I think isn't he your supervisor? You know his extension is (XXXX). He said that if someone from there called again, he'd handle the situation personally. In fact, he said that if I couldn't get you to transfer my call to him, that I was to ask for (James) or (Fred) since both would be appraised of the situation here." I could still hear her breathing, but she didn't say anything. Finally I asked simply "You're not going to be calling back ever again are you (Bunny?)" Her answer was a soft, almost meek "Uh..no, I'm...Uh, I'm sorry to bother you. We uh...we won't call back."

    With that the phone ended.

Yes, I was sucky, but MAN it felt so good.

Yes the way you went about it was sucky, but you know what, they had it coming. I swear I hate pushy sales people. What kills me is the whole "if you continue to be hostile I'll hang up on you" threat. I mean you didn't even want their call in the first place.

You weren't sucky at all. You did what Dave told you to do. You did what you had to do to get Bunny to stop calling and harrassing your mom. Bunny was the sucky one here.

IMHO, no suckage on the OP's part.

Sucky would be screaming for free months of service for the hassle.

OP did everything correctly - went up the food chain as needed, and ended up with the desired result without screaming or ranting.

The only suck is with "Bunny". "Dave", who IMHO, did a great job, and will (sadly) probably get slapped by his bosses for not meeting the sales numbers.

I say it again and again. Simply because other people are EW and SC's does not entitle people to abuse you. This was in NO WAY SUCKY!! In fact, this is a textbook example of how to handle a situation like this. Polite, firm and and with communication, not volume. Good for you!

Even if you had insisted on talking to Dave, or Frank, or James you wouldn't have been sucky. You could have rightfully had her job for ignoring a no call order.

I got a telemarketer fired for ignoring the do not call order. The calls were from my work. I was not eligible for the promotions as an EMPLOYEE. So after the first caller, I was put on the internal DNC list. So some idiot decided to first ignore the do not call notation then to call me a liar. A very very bad idea. See, the guy in charge of the program was a friend of mine at work. And when I told him about the discussion, he became very animated. In a "I can find out who called and will have their ass for breakfast." Note to anyone who makes outgoing calls: don't assume the caller who informs you politely that they work for the organization you are calling on behalf of is lying and DO NOT EVER tell them they are lying.

As an ex telesales operator....No suck, pure awesome!

That was simply beautiful. I used to loathe it when my colleagues would ignore do not call notes on accounts just to bump their numbers.

I'd been getting phonecalls recently from some company trying to sell me a loan (as far as i could work out)

First i requested that they not call me again because I'm hard of hearing and Their accents were very very strong so half the time i hadn't got a damn clue what they were on about, (middle eastern accent of some sort) and i know what these companies are like, you say the word yes at any point and they'll class that as a verbal contract (That happened frequently at my old job)

Second time i asked them not to call as i didn't want a loan.

                    3rd time, repeated reason 2.

4th time they called and asked for someone else then spoke with me when i said they dind't live here. Repeated step 2.

                    Registered for TPS.

5th time. Grrrr, demanded that they never call me again.

6th time: Advised them that i was on the TPS and that i wanted the name of their company so i could report them, and that i also wanted to speak to a manager as i'd requested numerous times not to be called. The agent yelled something i couldn't understand at me (Like i said, poor hearing) and hung up.

                    No further calls.

                    heh

personally i dont see anything sucky at all.
they were ordered to not call and kept calling and being rude...

the only sucky thing is that you had to drop names to get them to obey what their bosses told them to do

I don't see where you sucked at all. They should have stopped. Trying to be bitches to make a quick buck. Harassment is not allowed and will not be tolerated. You didn''t cuss at them or do anything remotely crappy. You're a lot more patient than I am.
