Today, my friend was sick and since I couldn't very well walk all the way to the bus stop, I took a cab.
As soon as I got in the driver asked me what I did to my leg. I was tempted to tell him I hurt it by kicking people in the head for asking personal questions, but I told him what happened. I have never seen this guy before in my life, so I had to wonder if he asked everyone that has a visible handicap how they got it.
I get to work, put my stuff on my desk and hobble off to get ice in the cafeteria, when I get back I see BossMan, Whiner and another woman all standing around my desk. I came up behind them and asked what they were doing. They all looked at me and said "We were wondering if you were here". I guess my coat hanging on my chair, or my apple and coffee sitting on my desk weren't enough clues to show I was there.
BossMan told me I might have been hiding under my desk. I told him I do that all the time, but not lately since I have a bum leg.
I later hobbled off to the ladies room and I dropped my cane when I was washing my hands on the way out and even though the woman who was also washing her hands saw it, she didn't offer any help to pick it up. Yeah, thanks, I'll just bring on the pain while I picked it up myself, thanks.
After work, I was filling my giant mug at the Wawa, with soda and a weird man stared at my cane and then started to tell me his life story, then stopped and asked if he could carry my mug up the check out. I thanked him for the offer, but told him that my husband was on his way in and he would do it.
So, thank you weird guy! You restored a tiny bit of hope for mankind in me.
