    Small sighting from yesterday...

So I was out and about yesterday, and I stopped in Store2 to say hi to a friend. He was MOD (and he's only been a department manager for less than 2 months I think). It was a rainy and windy day, with some pretty strong gustiness. I'm assuming it was the wind that knocked the power out. It was only a few minutes; he was just starting to herd all the customers to the door when the lights came back on. So of course all the computers had to be rebooted, and the registers came back up but they were off-line (which doesn't affect the customers' ability to pay for their purchases, only causes some potential issues for the store, such as that they can't tell how much is on gift cards or decline credit cards; the system just auto-approves everything).

Anyway, I was wandering around waiting for him to deal with things so I could say good-bye, and I passed two women heading toward the door. One of them was bitching to her friend about "not waiting for their computer to start working." This was maybe 5 minutes after the lights came back on. At least she wasn't bitching to the employees, but she did seem to think they should be able to get things going faster than they were. Which they can't.

On a related note, when my friend called Store Support to let them know what happened, they left him on hold so long he finally hung up.

I waited on hold with store tech support for about 2 hours once. Our bookkeeper was trying to fix a computer to get it to work with the one interface. He calls, tells them the problem and they put him on hold to find out a fix to the issue. Because he was the only person in bookkeeping he handed the phone over to me and i got to sit on hold (while i did my other stuff) A few customers asked about it and when I told them i was on hold with tech support they all understood. After finally getting off hold, 1 hour and 45 minutes later, (the display on the phone tells you how long you've been on the phone, and we kept checking) they came back on. I paged the bookkeeper and started to tell them the issue. Of course, we find out the computer we have is incomptable with the store system.

So we had that computer why?

Now that you mention it, I once stayed on hold with store support while I was on register because the manager had things to do (this was before the portable phones and the issue we were having was with the registers, so lucky me...). I don't remember how long I was on hold but it was a while.
