It's pretty sad that it even has to be pointed out after all this time.

Religious and political commentary are not allowed on CS, so I don't really know why anyone would wade deep into forbidden territory with a post that combines both of those topics.

I dunno--it seems like even TALKING about the issue is verboten, which makes the rule enforcement, when the mods come down upon it. I thought it was a great post about people (who could very well be customers) being EWs.

It's hard not to talk about people being EWs and bad customers when politics and religion is such a huge part of it (capitalism, belief, government nonsense, etc). Nice people can be made into SCs when organizations get involved. But not all great message boards fall to pieces when people start discussing things.

Throw the gavel. Just my 2 pennies.

The post was indeed great. We don't mind if religion is the reason that someone goes apeshit at a cashier.

What we do mind is when it veers into the well-trodden route of dissecting religions/laws/politics. Individual cases are fine and welcomed. Discussion about what happened is great. You want to discuss the greater whys then take it to Fratching - it's more robust.

I agree, mad props to the store owner. He's so clever.

It's clever, but I'm not sure how it gets around the ordinance. The store is still where it is, maze or no, unless I misunderstood something.

Basically, before, it was a store located twenty feet too close to the church. Now, it's a store located twenty feet too close to the church with twenty feet of chainlink maze next to it.

How does that skirt the ordinance?

(And I know what it's like in SC. I lived there for a brief period of time, and if you wanted to know what I really, truly thought of Greenville, it would scorch fratching to a crisp. That being said however, I saw churches and smut shops and liquor stores rubbing shoulders or facing off across the street all over that city. Greenville has two things in the greatest abundance: places to sell your soul and places to save it.)

Presumably, the ordinance differentiates between 20 feet "as the crow flies" and 20 feet "walking distance". The maze would add another 20 feet to one's trip from the door to the church to the door to the liquor store if traveled on foot.

If you have to ask, it's probably better posted at www.fratching.com

I've got an idea! Why don't we just take down all the boards and only have a Fratching Board? All problems solved and everyones happy.

`Cause then 4chan would sue for theft of intellectual property.

                          Don't forget, this is SC.

Edit: Oh yea, and the fact that stores which sell liquor or 'adult' novelties must be placed no less than 500 yards from any school, park, civic building, day care center or place of worship, and the restriction is retroactive. So if a church moves in next to a liquor store, it's the STORE which has to move.
Looks to be more than a coincidence that the state is abbreviated as "SC".

Considering the U.S. constitution prohibits the establishment of a state religion (so allowing priveliges to one religion and denying them to others would be illegal), has any bar owner used the loophole that they're actually a temple of Dionysus (ancient Greek god of wine), and therefore not subject to such a restriction?
Any fool can piss on the floor. It takes a talented SC to shit on the ceiling.

I presume temples which sell liquor would still qualify. It's the fact they sell liquor that hooks them, not the fact that it's a "store".

Switch that to Bacchus, and you might have something. Being one of the two Greek/Roman gods still actively worshipped in the world*, you might get away with it. Of course, you'd have to file all the non-profit paperwork, get certified, and other happy government rigamarole first. Then you'd probably have to go through with a lawsuit over infringing on your religious rights.

Probably not worth it to the average booze shop, who might be better served by setting up shop just outside the city/district limits.

                                * nevermind. It looks like worship of the Greek pantheon is coming back. Old info. sorry.
