  • I'm debating if I should call a local campaign office..

We had some people throwning pamphlets on our cars at home the other day. We have signs "no soliciting" so not only are they in violation of that, they are tresspassing.

I informed them that they are not allowed to do that where I am (plus, people always seem to do this just before it rains making it difficult to take their propoganda off of our windshields).

They throw an attitude but I don't want their crap on my cars and neither do other people in my neighborhood.

Sure enough, an hour later, I see a bunch of their pamphlets thrown in an area of our common area.

Personally, I can't wait for this to be over, so much wasted paper (none of it is on recycled paper, too), so many people knocking on my door, so many phone calls, so many commercials I really hate seeing, so many people telling me how I should vote (even from outside the US).

Of course, I found the best way to get these people to close their mouths, three words: "I already voted" (we have early voting here).

Edit: No, I won't get into which candidate this was for since I get this from BOTH sides.

oh how nice it is to live in a state that doesn't matter... I haven't gotten a single phone call, a single knock on my door, or a single pamphlet on my car

I'd be a little more mean than phoning the office.

I'd collect all the leaflets and return them.
A PSA, if I may, as well as another.

I live in Florida. Swing state with almost twice as many electorial votes as any other undecided state (well, North Carolina is #2 with 15 - Florida has 27).

Call the police, there's someone out there messing with all of our cars and following us around!

I'm so glad my dad decided to demolish the front porch just in time for elections. Plus the home phone just got cancelled, so we've been mostly left alone.

And yeah, if they are tresspassing, go have a talk with the office, but since they are probably volunteers, I don't know that it will do much. Odds are, whoever you talk to won't even know who was in that area, though you never know.

I'll be glad when it's over. I'm tired of the phone calls (home and work), the constant TV ads, flyers left on my car, etc.

Yeah - im in a battleground state too...

I'll be so glad when it's over.

Not to mention I'm involved in booking the travel for one of the parties (not local, national).

              I'm exhausted.

I made the mistake of watching the news this evening. I almost threw the TV out the window.

I am so tired of the phone calls. To cut back on expenses I took caller ID off the land line. Most evenings these last couple of days have been spent using the answering machine to listen to the same three candidates (or their spouse) leaving me messages. Personally it makes me less likely to want to vote for them.
As people are saying at least tomorrow evening should bring an end to a lot of it.
As for what to do . . .their are rules and regulations that candidates must follow. It their volunteers are not following them it does need to be reported to the people running the election not necessarly the candidate headquarters.

I'm so with you on this one. I refuse to watch any election night coverage. Especially since the whole Bush / Gore fiasco. Wouldn't it be nice to have a black out on election coverage and polls for the last few days prior to the election?
Bliss I say. No more television trying to tell me the outcome of the election before the election itself has even started.

I like to stay politically aware, but this race is getting to be too much to stomach. I will be glad that it is over, but maybe not glad at the outcome.

Check your laws though, here it's illegal (criminal offence) to not allow canvassing in a federal election in apartment buildings, retirement homes, gated communities and public places

                        .
Thats one thing that I really like about the Australian electoral system. There is mandatory blackout on media campaiging for the last 3 days leading up to the election.
Still that doesn't stop them dropping stuff in your letter box or accosting people as they enter the polling stations. We had to report someone one year who refused to take no for an answer when handing out "how to vote" flyers.

On my campus, there has been an explosion of stupid campaigning over the past couple hours. My friend just related this story to me.

A girl approached her, saying that they were giving out signs for doors reminding people where to vote (There are a couple locations on different ends of campus). My friends though, "Oh, that's nice! They're reminding people where to go so they aren't confused." She took one look at said signs and all of those thoughts were destroyed. The signs were no more than big "Vote for <candidate>!" placards with a -tiny- (I saw them, I can verify) section stating the voting locations. And yes, they were all for one candidate. They have also plastered stickers (they look permanent) for the same candidate all over campus, on doors and windows in all public places. It makes me glad I have already voted (absentee ballot), and for the other candidate no less.

One election, both local major candidates sent me postal vote applications with a reply paid envelope... to the candidate's office!

So I filled each with the other candidate's propaganda and sent it back. Also sent both copies of the H.E.M.P. leaflet since somebody left a box of them on our doorstep.

The municipal elections here in Finland were very civilised. A reasonable amount of media coverage - you knew it was happening, but there weren't interviews and debates every five minutes.

I got exactly two flyers through the door, and picked up a third one from a canvasser outside the supermarket. I didn't vote for any of them, but they were reasonable in tone - and it was noteworthy that they were for the two parties that did best in this city.

The TV coverage during the counting was calm and collected. A lot of waffling going on - they have several hours to fill, I suppose - but it's mostly the regular updates on the counts and interviews with the main parties' leaders.

Nationwide, three parties had almost equal shares of two-thirds of the vote. There were several significant minority parties, too. Each of the main parties had strong showings in different parts of the country.
