I was just reminded of this on my way home from work when I saw somebody slam on their breaks, skidding and stopping a safe distance away from the car in front of them. Not sure why it reminded me, but it did.
Anyway, sometime last month a friend of mine and I were hanging out and we had just dropped off her roommate's kid at school. So we're on our way back and stop at a red light, like so many of us do, and in the lane next to us, there is a lady stopped a car's length from the crosswalk, we find it odd and keep looking over at her.
Eventually, I get a good enough look that I can tell what's going on: She's asleep at the wheel. By the time I notice this, we had already gotten a green light so getting out and waking her was out of the question, so we pull into a parking lot across the street and watch for a few minutes before someone pulls into the empty road in front of her and has their passenger get out and tap on her window. We could see well enough that she actually looked around for a few seconds trying to figure out where she was.
Frankly I'm surprised she was able to keep her foot on the break, and even more surprised it took that long for someone to wake her up.
