Maybe booths were all that were available when those single people got there. You did say the restaurant was very busy. They probably took the first seat they could find and it happened to be a booth.

You don't know the seating availability before you got there. Try not to judge them too harshly.

I always take the stool, mostly because all the booths are taken.
