  • Adventure at Beall's

I was caught unaware yesterday that Beall's was having a 20% off sale on everything, including already marked down items. I went over there to buy my kids each a pair of Croc's for Christmas, thinking I could get in and out. Not only did I not know about this sale, the rest of the Snowbird population obviously did and was there making their usual trouble.

I was at least nine people behind the rest and decided getting upset would do no good. Still, the line did not move fast, thanks to each and every one of the customers in front of me arguing with the cashiers on how they didn't get their 20% off. Not only that, but the cashiers all had to show in great detail on their receipts where the discount was applied.

Also, while I was waiting for my turn, this wrinkly-skinned woman dressed in black, complete with perfect hairdo, nails, and make-up job, came up to the counter with some bags and said, "I need someone to help me return these now!" The cashier she spoke with, very sternly said, "Maam, I am with a customer right now, and you will have to wait your turn like all these other people you see." Lady in black then left in a huff.

And finally, one lady ahead finally had her turn when a cashier said, "Next". This lady did not move fast enough, and the grouchy man behind me yelled, "Hey! Next!" right in my ear. I then turned and said "Well, you didn't have to be rude about it." And he said nothing back, like these people all do. They know they're rude and don't care.

I'm wondering how Black Friday is going to be. If it was this bad on Sunday, God knows what Friday will be like. Oh, I must point out that my wait was worth it. The Croc's were 30% off, plus another 20%, so I got them both at half price. Well worth the wait. Too bad my manners (except what I said to Grouchy old man) don't fit in well.

My mom used to work at Bealls in Ocala part time, just to get away from my dad who is retired and drove her nuts.

Needless to say, she's back at home w/ my dad underfoot. Apparently that's the MUCH lesser of two evils.

Yeah while I was at work a customer told me about it(there's a Bealls about 2 minutes down the road)
I thought of going, but I've been there when they have sales, and it's a madhouse

Ah, the showing of discounts. I'm not familiar with Bealls, but some stores list discounts in a way that isn't clear. It will show 30% off, but not list the end amount or it will list the discounts taken at the end. I consider myself reasonabley intelligent, but those types of discount programs annoy the hell out of me. Even still, customers fail to acknowledge even the most obvious of discounts. I have customers tell me "You rang me up twice!!" only to have me point out that I voided out the double-ring right after. It takes a few minutes for customers to understand this simple concept of two minus one equals one. Gaaahh.
