This is more of a secondhand sighting.

The University of Toledo sends out "Timely Warning" notices when a crime is reported within the vicinity of the campus to alert the students and faculty of any potential dangers. This is usually things along the lines of reported rapes, or break ins. It is a good system. These alerts report crimes that are on campus or near any of the adjoining intersections or neighborhoods. Basically anything within a 10 minute walk off campus is covered.

Anyway this sighting comes from one of these warnings. Today we received an alert in regards to an Aggravated Menacing. What exactly is this? The suspect in question brandished a gun on local TARTA (toledo area rapid transit authority) bus and demanded to be driven to an apartment complex. The kicker to this. The Complex was literally only a two blocks from the campus. I've walked from the campus to visit a friend of mine who lives at said apartment complex. The walk takes all of 20 minutes. And yet the best way for this idiot to get there was to use a gun to get a free bus ride

If you're at all familiar with the Area he hijacked the bus at the Dorr street entrance to the campus and got off at Kenwood Apartments. For those not familiar with the area I have included a map to illustrate the absurdity of it all. It even has google street view available on it

The University here sends out similar alerts to the students as well. My husband always rolls his eyes at the ones that basically say, "A lone (often female) student was mugged while walking alone at 3am in this Very Not Safe Neighborhood."

Which makes me miss the newspaper at our undergrad University even more. The Police Blotter was always entertaining. There'd be reports of snowballs thrown in winter (illegal in the city), and people who left their car/office/dorm room/locker/bike unlocked or their backpack/mp3 player/laptop unattended and then had things stolen (and wondered why). I need to see if the blotter is up online at all.

you'd have loved one I saw in USU's police blotter.
keep in mind, this was printed in April
"Sunday a student living in Richard hall reported to campus polic that he had noticed suspicious activity back in December. He noticed on Sunday that the klavacord from the Richards hall lounge was missing and realized that the group of people carrying a what looked like a large box back in December must have stolen it. Further investigation by campus police revealed that the group of people moving the large box was a group of RAs assisting a student that had graduated that semester move out. The klavacord was located in the dining hall where it was scheduled to be used for a performance later that week"

Smiley, that sounds very much like half the stuff printed in BYU's paper. ::giggle::

Yeah, I know right where you are talking about. I saw it on the news the other day. I live about 40 minutes from Toledo, so I know the area. I am just amazed that somebody was that stupid.
