Witnessing misinformation about DTV transition in Best Buy

My brother works for one of the major cable companies doing installs and has had several people try to use the $40 government 'coupon' towards the digital cable box. He has to explain that it's not the type of converter box intended for the coupon.

They must not even see the CABLE ADS which explain why they don't need them. *sighs*

He didn't lose any comission because best buy hasn't been on comission since 1984. He was misinformed by the people in charge of training him properly. Call corporate and tell them that your local Best Buy is doing its employees a diservice.

The issue is that it isn't the sales people that are on commission. The managers and sups get a monthly bonus depending on the service plan and attachment rates. When the numbers dip, they start treating the salespeople like shit and pressure them.

So it you're working at Best Buy you're really working to pad your sup's and manager's paycheck.

You know, in the three years that I've worked there so far, the worst I've had is, "Hey, Mike. We're slipping a bit here. What can we do to get the numbers back up?" Never been pressured and never been mistreated at my store. If the managers are doing what you've described to get the numbers back up, they're doing it the wrong way and need to be reported to HR. That's bad for store morale and it ends up costing them employees.

So it you're working at Best Buy you're really working to pad your sup's and manager's paycheck.

Having been in management at another retailer, I can tell you that's true across the board and not necessarily a bad thing.
