  • Apparently, I worship Satan

This came back to me after reading GingerBiscuit's post 'That's ILLEGAL.'

I used to go into this shop called 'Trade Winds' that sold everything from wood carvings, to crystals, to candles to silver jewlery and semi-precious gems. One of my favorite articles of clothing is a black canvas duster. I wear it a lot; unfortunately it seems to send a signal to some people.

I was looking on the sale shelves (slightly damaged goods usually) when one of the sales ladies came-up to me and said "Oh, I've seen you in here before and I just thought you'd like to know that we just got these candles in! They're damaged, so they're on sale but they're black and perfect for a Satanic Ritual!"

    (Ummmm....Whaaaa????...My brain imploded here)

I thanked her for letting me know and slowly eaaaased my way out of the store, where I started laughing; somewhat crazily I might add because that encounter was so unexpected! So apparently anyone who wears a black coat worships Satan, not just because a fitted black duster is very fashionable and slimming!

And yet, nobody ever told me anything about my Requiem T-shirt.

Well you know people that wear black dusters to tend to do crazy things like pick up Denarian coins and have images of Fallen angels in their heads tempting them to come over to the dark side. So I can totally see how she was confused. cookie for the reference? Just made a whole batch of chocolate crinkles!

Hey, I was totally thinking Dresden when I read "long black duster"! I think I should move those books up on my "re-read" pile.

Huh. Maybe I should tell my mother not to wear her long black coat to church anymore.

Strictly speaking satanism is simply an acceptance of the more bestial side of human nature, not raising evil, but hey. She probably didn't know that...

Good point. I have nothing against what anyone worships; personal choice and all. It's just funny to assume that everyone wearing 'this' worships ---- and everyone wearing 'that' worships ---*--, etc. She really thought she was being helpful.

Side note, I probably would have bought the candles, I love candles, but they smelled like licorice.

Ah yes. I get it A LOT. Let's see.
I am a gothy girl, therefore:
I am a satanist, I am an evil witch, I think I'm a vampire, I'm a drug addict, I'm a child abuser, I take part in orgies, I'm suicidal, I want to kill evryone, I'm a dangerous violent lunatic.

                      sigh.

That's probably the funniest thing I've heard in a long time. I can see this perky "Bath and Body Works" type employee coming up and saying "Hey, these lotions will be perfect for when your hands get rough after the goat sacrafice!"

Or to quote Anton Levey "Its hard being a good Satanist when the world has gone to hell."

Meh.. it could have been a joke in bad taste... maybe. I'm just trying to give the store clerk the benefit of the doubt here.

Maybe you should paint a pentacle on your duster. I mean you don't want to be sending people the wrong message or anything

They sound more New Age than magic/Pagan, so she probably doesn't have any real idea about anything.
