  • The Kid And The Shopping Cart

I was in Harris Teeter the other day waiting for my turn at the check out. The woman ahead of me had a young kid that was climbing on the side of the shopping cart. As is easily predicted, the shopping cart fell, with the kid underneath it. The crash and subsequent yelp caused the mother to turn around and extract the the kid. I could not hear if anything was said to the kid. The mother then continued her check out. The punch line of this story is that the shopping cart was one of those small "customer-in-training" shopping carts.

Aww. Poor little guy. It sounds like he was OK, which is good.

I'm betting the mom was handling that the same way I would have. Check for serious injuries, have a quick quiet conversation: "This is why I told you not to climb on the carts. Maybe you'll pay attention next time I tell you not to do something," then continue checking out as if nothing has happened.

I bet that child lived and learned from that experience.

The stupid is strong with this one.
