Hmm. The hotel I worked security at had a huge conference center with ballrooms, very grandiose; thick carpet, crystal chandalers, sateen wallpaper. At night it was very Phantom-of-the-Opera-ish. None of my male coworkers wanted to do patrols there in the dark...Not a single one. The place creeped them out even though. Me, I found the atmosphere relaxing. They all thought I was weird.

Though I did hear sort of a whispering sound in this one area every time I walked by. I said hi to it every night, and it stopped. If I forgot to say high, it would make a loud noise as I walked by, and keep going until I said hi. Don't know what that was.
    Hobos?

I'm definitely not Sensitive, and more likely to believe an improbable, down-to-Earth explanation, but ghost stories are still the only ones that can really, truly scare me. Even Ghost Hunters can make me afraid of the dark.

I make it a point never to enter a place rumored to be haunted, just in case. Same as I don't enter building with a broken door where psychotic murderers may lurk.

I haven't got any of my own, but I LOVE these kinds of first-hand "true" ghost stories.

And so I bump this thread and continue reading!

I've had weird experiences, but never at work. I think I'm not relaxed enough when I'm at work to perceive those energies.

Oh and for your amusement... check out the "true stories" at the page below.
          http://theshadowlands.net/ghost/

There's also a list at the page of haunted locations there at the page
The place I work at is on that list. Of course they got part of the story wrong as always. But not as bad as usual.

I've got another freaky one...sort of.

Our EAS gates at work are designed to go off whenever there's something magnetic or something with an RFID tag on it. At random points, one of these particular gates keeps going off. For no reason. It'll do one *beepbeepbeepbeep* and that's it.

Most of us have scoured the area looking for a cause to the random beepings. But we can't find one. It goes off at the most random times...like there was one time a manager was talking to us and it went off in the middle of her speech. She was freaked out. It also goes off when there's nobody there, customer or coworker alike. While there's a computer next to it, it didn't start doing this until recently.

theres an old freezer on my patio, its door is open. because my mother had a nightmare one night that someone was in there, woke up in a panic ran out side and opened it. i ha da night mare later that someone would see and stuff a body in so i closed it. my mom opened it again because apparently my fear was irrational.

I'd guess there is something doing short bursts of the radio frequency the gates are looking for, and the burst occasionally is just stong enough to set off the gate if in the right place. Anyone get new walkie-talkies recently? Maybe a new cell phone? I'd check with facilities and IT to see if new equipment went in recently, also.

i had that feeling about the house i grew up in; it had parts that were about 90 yrs old (this was back in the 70's and 80's), so it creaked and did all the things you expected an old house to do, except, when you're alone it in.

my parents went for a vacation in another state, my brother was off to college and i was home alone, having just returned from working my night shift (security at a lumber mill), i was relaxing, reading a book, when i hear what sounds like footsteps coming down the stairwell...only, i'm alone. i checked the stairwell and it's empty, but i was broken out in goosebumps just the same. that entire week was rather nerve wracking at nights (i even slept with a machete under the bed) because of all the noises.

several times, it felt like i was being watched, and i was the only one in the room, so i do understand what that feels like.
                  look! it's ghengis khan!
Sorry, but while I can do many things, extracting heads from anuses isn't one of them. (so sayeth the irv)

So, people often hear things or see things. Has anyone been TOUCHED unexplainably? *turns out light & gets flashlight for spooky effect*

                          Yes.

First off, it didn't happen at work, and a lot's happened besides that, both in this house and a couple of others. But I'm going to stick to answering your question as much as possible. Although I should preface my story by saying that, before this happened, we'd already seen things, felt icy air for no explanation, I'd heard a guttural voice call my name... All in this apartment I am currently sitting in. So this was just one more thing to add to the list.

I was in bed. I'd been asleep, but I woke up when I felt the bed moving. (I know I was awake; there is no way this was a dream.) I could feel the side of the bed dipping, like someone was pressing down on it - and then I felt pressure on my arms, holding me down. I couldn't move at all. I was staring straight up at the ceiling at that point, and even though I couldn't see anything above me I could hear a voice in my ears; it was low and raspy and the single most terrifying thing I have ever heard in my life.

I remember, and this horrified me so much I initially left it out of the story I told my family, it kept asking me, "Do you feel this?"

I didn't answer, because I didn't want it to ask anything else. And I had a feeling it would be a very bad idea to reply in any way... So I just prayed for it to go away, and eventually it did. I forced myself to go back to sleep, and a couple more times I woke up that night unable to move, feeling myself being pressed down into the bed... But I tried to ignore it because I was just too scared to deal with it. I just wanted it to be morning.

And not long after that, I started having breathing problems, serious ones (I'm still dealing with it)... So a couple of weeks later, when I woke up in the middle of the night to feel myself being held down again, I got really, really angry at feeling something sitting on my chest again, when I was already struggling to breathe. I remember staring up at the darkness, ignoring the whispering in my ears (I have no idea what it was saying this time), and telling it in my head to get the f*** off me. Finally, it did.

And though that is the last time I remember being touched, nothing else that goes on in this apartment has stopped. *sigh*

GhostHelwig, you may want to talk to a doctor about Sleep Paralysis. You're describing some classic symptoms. I'm not sure about the voice, but it could be coming from not being in a full waking state. As this can be the harbinger of more serious issues, I'd at least look into it.

I definitely, definitely will. Thank you for the link. I'd actually heard of Sleep Paralysis before, and debated it when I had the experience that I did; I think I would've looked into it already if I hadn't experienced so many other things here that made me so sure we have a bit of a haunting problem, and if it had happened more times than it did. But I really, really don't want to ignore any possible physical ailments, as I've been sick for a few months now already and perhaps the two are related... [/off-topic rambling]

Anyway, yes. Thank you for the link, and the concern. Both are appreciated. Now, to find a place around here that actually deals with this sort of thing...

Hmmm...I have tons of experiences, being empathetic myself.

One took place at my school. FBLA was cleaning up after a party. A few of us were walking to the dumpster, passing by the gym. Looking inside the gym, I saw a brown figure move really fast. Two seconds after that, the weightroom doors banged. All of us jumped. The bang was so much, that the door even moved. There was no way anyone could get in the gym. It was locked. The only way to get into the weight room is through the gym.

This second one took place at on old house that is turned museum. It is very well known around here as haunted. I went into the room that is dedicated to people who have graduated high school and had many yearbooks.

I was alone in the room.

I heard a faint whisper, but as if the person was out of breath.

                                There is so much more.
