used his own paid-for garbage service.
Or put it in a public bin. Or take it back to McDonalds.

I don't want to come across like I am coming down on you, and I am not implying that you should run to confession and turn yourself over to the police.

      It's called "Theft of Service."

The change machine is a service offered to the paying customers. The machine cost the laundry mat money to operate and maintain, and the manpower to refill it. It could also cost the laundry mat a customer if the customer is unable to get change.

Some municipalities take the charge seriously.

My brother told me about a coworker. Hit the McD's drive-thru for lunch. Later, he wanted to throw out the trash. He pulls into an apartment complex and tosses the trash into the dumpster.

About a week later, he received a court summons. DA even had the McD bag as evidence.
Suddenly I'm reminded of an Anamaniacs cartoon where Slappy throws away a drink can in a neighbor's garbage can.
To right the countless wrongs of our days... We shine this light of true redemption, that this place may become as paradise...Oh, what a wonderful world such would be...

One night I told this old man that was dumping a bunch of old junk in our dumpster that it was for residents only and he told me to shut up and go eat another cheeseburger.
We get that all the time at our complex, too. If they didn't do it at 3 am (and be f***ing loud about it, too, the bastards), I'd go down and get their license plate numbers.

I'm tired of them waking me up while they dump their crap in our bins, and I'm tired of our bins being full to overflowing and being unable to throw away my own garbage in the bin I pay for 'cause some local business ass won't pony up the cash for his own bin.

        ^-.-^

The last building I was in and the one I'm in now have the card machines. In my last building, it was situated in a rather bad area, and when it was coin-op, the building was constantly broken into by the crack addicts and what-not and they were always rolling the machines for the money in them.
My place is in a fairly quiet area. Not much goes on except for the odd murder/suicide.

I don't feel at all uncomfortable about not staying there while the load is running.

At my apartment complex people that don't live here use our dumpsters all the time.
We get that....but it's the people from the complex next door. They're just too bone idle to be assed enough to take it to their own dumpster. Yes, I get that the one near the shared property entrance is closer to you than one of the dumpsters on your property, but you're not paying rent at our complex.
It's floating wicker propelled by fire!
