  • She was trying to steal....

Yesterday my mom and I went to a clothes store. As we get up to the register to pay, I hear the cashier making a call for a manager. When we reached the register, I noticed the last customer had left a $10 bill on the counter. I was about take it and run after the person to return it (they hadn't reached the doors yet), when the cashier's hand flies out a grabs it before me. But instead of returning it, she puts it in her back pocket really quickly, and says "Oops, guess someone left this". Then the manager she paged earlier arrives. My mom is paying for our clothes, totally oblivious to the situation, but I'm sending the cashier death glares and waiting for her to hand over the money to the manager. She just glares back (wow, I'm so frightened). The transaction is complete and my mom and I were ready to leave, but the cashier still has the money in her pocket, so I called out to the manager.

    Me: Ma'am! Ma'am!
    *The manager looks at me*
Before I can even get a word out, the cashier whips the $10 out of her pocket and shoves it to the manager and says, "The last person who was here left this".
Manager: "Oh, thank you." *starts to walk away*
Cashier: "But that's not what I paged you for. Starts talking about some other problem".

    Good for you!

Something tells me that that's not all she pockets or takes home with her.

And sadly, people like her are the reason that at the Deb Shop, we had to have see-through purses and even though they were see-through, we had to escort each other out of the store when we left for the day and make sure none of us stole anything.

If that store has a policy like Macy's, then the cashier wouldn't have to be an outright thief like that. When an employee turns in something to lost and found, their name gets attached to it. If someone doesn't claim it in 3 months, then it's yours. I got $20 that way and my aunt got a bracelet. Although, in both of those cases it's not like we saw who lost it and went out of our way to conceal it like that shady cashier!

Macy's also had (has?) a see through purse policy.

        I love honesty like that.

I once had a customer get to my register and hand me a wallet she said she found in one of the aisles. It was a really busy day so i explained to her that the owner would be contacted via their license info and kept into the safe until then and that i'd just need to get a manager to take it there.

unfortunately it was a really busy day so my manager was actually ringing on the register in front of me so i had to wait until she was finished.

The woman refused to leave until she saw me hand it to my manager.

If it were my wallet i'd want THAT lady guarding it. When you think about it, it was SUPER cool how she was following through like that.

See and I might have blurted something like, "Oh good! You're giving it to the manager. Good thing, because I wasn't sure what you were doing sticking that customer's money in your back pocket! I'm sure you wouldn't want us to think you were stealing a customer's money. Especially since there are witnesses and you'd be on camera and all." Then look pointedly up at the security camera.

This woman dropped a hundred dollar bill. She must have dropped in it in line because this guy came up and gave it back to her! I was shocked and it made my day knowing there are still nice people out there.

Its funny because some people drop their stuff all over the place. The weirdest items we've seen people forget: Their walker, canes, a breathing machine (I kid you not, I heard it from security) and scooters. That's right. How the hell did they walk away without those!?

I've lost count of the car keys and eyeglasses our patrons leave behind and then never come back to claim. How do people get home without their keys?

I remember one day when I worked at Walmart I found $10. Took me forever to find a manager to turn it into and when I finally did the manager acted like it was something beneith her to handle and made me run around some more to find a different manger to give it to. Made me wish I had just pocketed it and used it for lunch.

I had a customer once who accidentally gave me an extra hundred dollar bill when they were paying. I handed them back the extra benjamin with a smile and said "Sorry, but I can't accept tips".

They were very grateful and admitted that they probably wouldn't have realized their mistake until it was too late.
If you don't like my attitude, talk to the manager!!! Oh, wait, that would be me!!

Yes, I'm the manager. I'm also known as "the brick wall".
