No new news yet. I got my bill in the mail and everything was fine. No extra charges, etc. We'll have to see next month when me and my father get our respective bills.

I would suggest when this crops up again, take your problem to the following site:

DSL Reports, AT&T Forum (choose your location)

I recently had some luck taking care of a problem that couldn't be solved by traditional means (i.e., calling customer service). There are several AT&T employees who read the boards and help out where regular customer service has failed.

Awesome. Thanks for the link. I'll go to it next month if they haven't fixed my bill.

          UPDATE

My dad got his bill in and they still haven't fixed things. I'm going to head over to the link fma_fanatic gave me to try out. I'm also going to switch my cellphone provider. I found one that fits me and my dad's needs much better than what we currently have and who will pay the fee for breaking the contract I have with AT&T.

I knew I should've kept my big mouth shut...

For the past day and some change my connection drops sporadically, usually each within a relative handful of minutes of one another. Being an intermittent issue, by the time I get through to their (un)help desk, it's back up, and they can't find any problems with the line.

You might want to have them come out and test the lines.

If it's the inside wiring, you'll get charged for the visit, but if it's the outside lines, they'll find the problem and fix it. Someone in my complex complained of the lines recently, and the guy came out and found that most of the lines coming down to our complex were corroding. I think they replaced them last month, and it's completely stopped the semi-random outages we used to get.

Does it correspond at all with wet or damp weather?

Don't forget windy, too. My last place had a bad drop line, and every time it got really windy, the Internet would flip out. It would have other issues when it rained, but the wind was a bigger cause.

FYI - the link I posted is not just for billing issues. They've got some pretty good Tier 2 techs who watch the board. It might take a day or so to get to you, but they will get the problem solved.

I did get a tech out to check the lines, and for a bit after that things worked okay.

                    Until it started again.

The ultimate problem? Somehow, one of the settings on my router got b0rked. I'm not sure which setting, but after restoring the factory default settings, things started working without any problems at all. Fix the few network-specific things that absolutely wouldn't work, on my LAN, with the defaults (primarily security issues, like MAC address filtering and router/encryption passwords), and I was back up and running.
