I always wonder if Kheldarson and I will get a similar reaction to the SCA players on here once we have time to play again. We're both members of Amtgard - a third- or fourth-generation SCA descendant with a much stronger fantasy theme - and despite our game's gentler weapons and rules, our actual play can be pretty vicious. I've seen plenty of nasty bruises and scrapes, plus a number of cuts from broken weapons, jewelry, and broken glasses...

I got my dad questioned by CPS when I was about three. Totally innocent, I didn't mean to. He just had to take me to the ER twice in a week. The first time, we were making cookies together and I put my hand on the hot stove--I still have a scar from that burn. A few days later I was playing during bathtime and slipped in the tub. Dad grabbed my arm but I still hit my head on the edge of the tub, so I had a goose egg AND a deep bruise from how hard I was grabbed to try to catch me, and had to be rushed to the ER again to make sure I was okay. Seeing me twice in a week, the doctor asked how I got the bruise, and being three I said "Daddy did it!" (Because...he did...he grabbed me, right? I was three, it made sense to ME! )

My dad was MORTIFIED. He never did tell me the end of the story, but Mom worked at that hospital and was on duty that day, so I assume they called her and it eventually got straightened out.
It's little things that make the difference between 'enjoyable', 'tolerable', and 'gimme a spoon, I'm digging an escape tunnel'.

back when we were growing up, sis's skin was very reactive. i don't remember this incident but i do remember the way her skin was. if you touched her skin with any sort of pressure it would leave a red mark for a few minutes.

apparently at the doctor's office, for a routine checkup, the doctor saw the red marks on her back and gave mom a look of suspicion. the red marks had him thinking mom had been hitting her...

until he touched her skin in the exam and saw that he had left red marks wherever he touched her. then he relaxed, realizing sis just had sensitive skin and wasn't being abused
Had something kind of like this when I was little. I was somewhere around 2nd grade, I think? Went in to pediatrician that I had been going to since I was a baby, so he knows us right? Well, I had a huge bruise on my hip from running into....something. He was actually fish-eyeing my mom when he saw it until I piped up and said what I had run into. This from a man that had been taking care of me for 7-8 years and had never seen any hint of any sort of abuse!

Hell, I've got two bruises the color of robin's eggs on my upper thigh right now. I have no idea what I ran into. I only know it happened at work last night because they weren't there when I went in.
