  • I did what you said to do. Why are you upset?

Without going into detail about it, I've spent the last two days screwing around trying to fix a problem with the Greatest Customer's car. We needed to consult an expert (who shall remain nameless, as despite what he did, I still have a lot of respect for him).

The Greatest Customer gave me a number to call, which turned out to be the Expert's cell phone number. He wasn't too thrilled about getting a cold call on his cell, which I can understand, but he helped anyway. He told us what to check next and to call back on his 800 number. OK, fine.

So today, I performed the check and called the 800 number.

Expert: "You know, if you're looking for free help, you need to call my tech line and not the 800 number because this call is costing me money."

Me: I'm sorry? I thought you said to call this number.

Expert: Well it's just that I'm paying for this call right now.

Me: Would you like me to hang up and call back on the other line?

Expert: No no....what'd you find out?

He still helped, but seriously, what the hell? He TOLD ME to call this number, then got upset when I did. You guys know what car this is, and there aren't a lot of them. This guy makes his living servicing them and nothing else. I would think he'd treat his fundamentally limited customer base with a little more respect, especially when they are doing what he asked them to do.

Maybe he's just having a bad day or something, I don't know.

Sounds like my former boss. She came in and changed everything, which was good, but when I started doing it her way she criticized it. There was no pleasing her. So glad I'm outta her dept.

Off on a tangent - Packet8 VOIP service will add an 800 number to your account for $5 per month, no extra charges or limits on incoming calls. You might want to call that guy (on his regular #, the cheapskate!) and tell him.
