  • Bitterly Biased Much?

I stopped into one of our stores to chat with a manager. We began talking about the new stores coming in, and she began reminiscing about a nice discount store we had a year ago. I agreed I really loved that store because they had so many different things at awesome prices. She concurs, then adds "But I just wish there hadn't been so many blacks, hispanics and foreigners in there!"

I wasn't sure I heard her right and asked her what she meant by that. Her argument was that "those people" were always really disruptive because they were ALWAYS in there complaining about prices and wanting the best deals.

    Ummm....

I basically told her that this is America and pretty much EVERYONE wants the best price and that I saw many white people doing the exact same thing; nobody was more or less disruptive than anyone else. She just shrugged and said she didn't like "that sort" unless they were working the registers!

I don't think I'll be speaking to that manager again!

Always shocking when something like that comes so unexpectedly, from someone you wouldn't think would think that way, and with the assumption that you and anyone else in hearing range would naturally agree!
Now the trouble about trying to make yourself stupider than you really are is that you very often succeed.

I could almost see her point if she were to say one race, such as hispanics, since I do believe bartering is part of their culture. To add a vague term of foreigners though is just being ignorant and throwing everybody into one stereotype regardless of their actual background.

Perhaps a letter to her higher ups is in order? I know you can't cure people of bigotry, but it sounds possible she might not be treating "Those People" as well as she would treat ...say... "Her People"

That there are still people like this out there suprises me only slightly less than does the fact that so many of them aren't even slightly embarassed about it.

She should go into a Wal-Mart, like the one in Grafton, WV. I'm sure her racist mind would explode a bit...right after she notices all the white people complaining about prices and wanting the best deals. Otherwise, the bitch needs to get her sheets cleaned, and go back to the Klan meeting

That still doesn't excuse what she said though.
