  • In-flight suckiness (slightly gross)

So, for all the experienced retail - and especially airline - folks here, I'll leave it up to you who was the sucky one here, as I relate a short tale my coworker told me this week.

She'd been on vacation to Spain; now, she's a rather frequent flyer for someone who's deathly afraid of flying, and who's easily air sick. Therefore, she always checks for the barf bag when boarding a plane.

On this trip, apparently, barf bags were low; neither her, nor her friends, nor the rest of the row had any, and she asked the flight attendant for a bag. FA promises to deliver, but doesn't.

Coworker asks again, several times. Friend of coworker's goes up front to ask for a barf bag when turbulence strikes and makes the need for such a bag more imminent. FA still doesn't deliver bag.

Then, when the air sickness hits, and there's no vessel available, coworker turns to the side (thankfully, away from her friends) and vomits into the aisle, on the carpet. Amazingly, that brings FA running with a barf bag - only, too little, too late.

Here's where I see some potential suckiness on my coworker's part, as she turns to the FA with the words, "Yeah, I'm not gonna be needing that anymore, but you can clean this here up instead."
You gotta polish a memory like a stone. Chip off the parts that remind you it was just a game. Work it until it's indistinguishable from any other memory.

Well I think the FA was pretty sucky here....an item like that is needed NOW not when they feel like bringing it. IT's an urgent situation.

I don't personally get air sick but I can see how that could easily happen....I get motion sickness in other ways.

No suckiness on her part. that was totally the FA's fault. being warned several times, not giving her anything to barf into, it was what they deserved and should have expected to happen.

Being someone who get airsickness very easily I know that when I get sick I need that bag now. And when you do get sick sometimes you know that you won't get to the bathroom in time and if you don't have a bag it'll happen where it happens.

Well, when you gotta puke, you gotta puke. If she asked repeatedly for something to be sick into (even if they didn't have barf bags, surely there was some kind of empty comtainer around), and they didn't provide, it's their fault.

and it's not like she didn't ask for one several times.
they had quite a few chances to fix this before it became a problem

The only suck I can see on your friend's part, and it is very small suck, is that if she knows she gets sick on flights, she maybe should carry a couple of waxed paper bags in her carry-on for emergencies. They can be bought at most grocery stores fairly cheap. Again, very small suck.

It would be dangerous to try to run to the toilet on a plane experienceing turbulence anyway, wouldn't it?

All suck on the side of the FA.

When I was pregnant and prone to barfing I did that. Bought my own barf bags and kept them in my purse. Just in case.

But yeah. More suck is on the airline. They obviously had them. She asked and they waited until it was too late provide them.

: puts "waxed paper bags" on next grocery list:

hey, I only get motion sick when I'm already suffering something else, but that's still a good tip! I never thought of that!

What I pack in my carry on is a pack of travel baby wipes and a couple of ziplock bags.
