I didn't even know that my city had a bum problem until my friend's wedding last weekend.
We were taking outdoor photos of the wedding party at a local park down by the river. Unbeknownst to me, it's also by the homeless shelter and downtown bars, and it's definetly not the best part of town.
As we were taking photos of the groomsmen and bridesmaids and the couple and etc etc, this haggard looking woman stumbled over towards the pavillion we were all under (how nice, plastered drunk at 5 pm) and interrupted the photographer and all of us to ask for money for the bus.
She didn't even get the hint when we all said no. She started on with her pity party story about being homeless and needing money for the bus.....again, she was given a chorus of "No" (at first it was "I'm sorry, no", but now we were getting a little impatient).....so then she started babbling about how she got homeless.....
We all just quit listening but made sure to look out the corner of our eyes at our jackets and purses and whatnot.
She then got upset and called us all something, then drunkenly wabbled away.
I understand there's a lot of tender hearted people out there who feel for homeless people, even the ones who beg...but....interrupt wedding photo taking to beg for money? Seriously.....you can't just beg from someone walking down the street or standing outside a business smoking a cigarette? You have to walk up to a pavillion where there are photos being taken and ask for money?
